Not me personally - in fact I would go as far as to say, that the better looking men I have met in the past are VERY boring and too damn full of themselves IMO.

But yes there are a lot of people out there (sadly mostly men) that would choice the looks first. Very shallow, but sadly true.

Having said that, maybe you should ignore my last post - cos I was referring more to people wanting to meet partners in-real life, and that was not the point you were making. :-5

So keeping on track (I do try honest :-2), no, I do not think that people would decide whether or not to chat with someone on-line based on looks. I think its more based on personality, interests and sense of humour.

Or it could be like me, I hate having my photo taking, I'm not photogenic at all, I always feel like a complete minger when I see pictures of myself and would rather not inflict that on my friends here!!!:D

I sometimes post my photo but i have always got one on my profile too.

i might change it again for a bit too.

I can understand why some of you prefer not to publish photos of yourselves on a public 'chat' site. I respect their reasons, and I do not think that it matters that much although I personally like to 'see' who I chat to on here. For me it's nice to be able to put a 'face' to the typing, but it isn't the end of the world if I don't know what they look like. As Jim says, it is the inner self of the person you communicate with - the personality, the humour, and possibly the ability for serious discussion - that is the important thing. Mind you I do have to chuckle a bit when I have to check somebody's profile just to see whether they are a Mr. or a Mrs. (or maybe a Miss), because their site name doesn't give anything away ! Cases in point Imladris and Pheasant !!!! Whereas with a site name like mine you'd think that it was fairly obvious that I am female (this is before I had my photo included) , but not according to one person who asked antagonistically whether I was the 'husband' or 'lover' of a lady FG member I was talking to! :yh_rotfl Mind you I felt I had to excuse her because she was American and of course they have male Gils (but with one L I believe). It turned out though that she and my friend had crossed swords in the past, and the American was just trying to start it all up again. However I believe certain Moderators stepped in and the American lady has voluntarily left the site.

I agree that society puts a strain on the outside appearance, but I would like to think that I'm not like that at all..I could care less what everyone looks like....I enjoy people for WHO they are, not how they look....I do think that everyone that I've come into contact with (on a positive level-of course) at FG are absolutely BEAUTIFUL people and I mean that..

Everyone is beautiful to someone. Looks are subjective and relative. I ain't the best looking guy in the world, but I do alright. The same goes for the rest of you. Just have to remember that the world sees you as you see yourself. It starts with you.

I agree in that it's nice to see who you're talking with. But I also respect the choice of those who would rather remain incognito. I started putting my picture up as an avatar because I figured with some of the opinions I hold, I have to have the guts to stand behind them. When I was a cute, fuzzy seal on here, it was easy to hide but I got tired of that. I wanted people to see that there really is a RedGlitter behind all that blah-blah.

I think I might change mine again soon. I feel a little naked without my feathers.
