OK, go on - beyond the obvious I cannot think of another case.

I'll give you a second if you give me a third, how's that?

If you stand (1 + 1/(2*pi)) miles north of the south pole and walk a mile south, then a mile east and then a mile north, where do you end up?

You'll note in passing that I've now given you an infinite number of starting points!

Nice one - obvious when pointed out but not something I'd have thought of.

So, I've given you an infinite number of longitudes. Now perhaps you'd like to give me an infinite number of latitudes?

Damnation! I was just falling asleep nicely and now this will keep me awake all night!

My first reaction is that that is the impossible position given that the dimensions of travel are fixed at 1:1:1.

Given that you're asking for an answer I have to assume that a solution is possible.

Just let me check the rules - the movement must be constrained to the surface of the sphere? The movement must be one mile south, one mile east then one mile north and must finish at exactly the starting point? The solution must be applicable to an infinite number of latitudes - i.e. must be independant of latitude?

Let me think - I'll get back to you :-(

The solution must be applicable to an infinite number of latitudes - i.e. must be independent of latitude?"must be independent of latitude" might be slightly misleading, let's not allow that to stand. There's a narrow belt of latitudes (compared to the planet as a whole) within which there are an infinite number of solutions with different latitudes.

This is the last set of which I'm aware. There are two other sets if I were to change the wording of the problem slightly and if I ask it again somewhere I might do that, because the other two sets are really neat. They just don't fit the words as they exist here.

So, you really are on the final leg with this part.

Never mind, Jimbo, your part Is to be what you'll be. (somewhere I'm going to walk into a crowded transport cafe and find a pinball machine and take the high score while they cook me the all-day, I'm destined).

Yes Chezzie, the North Pole works as a solution.

Is it somewhere in the bermuda triangle? Magnetic north and true north differ more from there, but my brain can't work out if that's the right answer. Then again, that's not an infinite latitude. Hmmm. :yh_think

Ok im going to post one, hope thats ok?:-3

I am a 6 letter word.

Letters 6-5-2 spell out a drink.

Letters 4-5-2-3 spell out a fruit.

Letters 1-2-6 spell out a pet.

Letters 3-2-6 spell out a pest, which often gets eaten by 1-2-6.

What am I?

For your answer I need the 6 letter and the drink, fruit, pet and pest words too:D

They all have a 4-letter word bedded backward in the middle.

If I knew what a Dube was I'd say you could swap the first letter of the 6 for the first letter of the 4 and they'd make words too.
