For those of you who haven't got the slightest idea what I'm refering to in my above post, ("one if by land, two if by sea...) that was the arrangement Paul Revere made with somebody or other, regarding how he would notify them of how exactly the British were approaching, as in..."one lantern if by land, two lanterns if by sea..."
Now how things evolved from that, to Revere's simply charging around on his horse bellowing, "The British are coming! The British are coming!", at the top of his lungs, I concretely do not know.
And for all of you modern-day Brits who are reading this and who don't any longer personally remember the American Revolution, I'll tell you that Paul Revere was an early American patriot, and Revolutionary War hero, (I guess.)
