Didn't know you were home...hope you had a fabulous holiday and met a few of the darlin spirits roaming around. How did ya like Kerry...that's what Donegal looks like. LOVED your card. Looks exactly what my Aunt Ellen's home looked like. I miss the fun we had there.
Will write this weekend.
Luv, Kathy:-4
:-6 Kerry was wonderful. It's years since I'd been there and I'd forgotten just how GREEN green can be. I started in Tralee and spent a week walking the Dingle peninsula, in the Irish speaking area - and I hadn't forgotten my Irish, and they actually understood me! Just about everyone there speaks English now, but I met many where it was not their first language. It was quite cold, windy and very wet, interspersed with bright warm sunshine.
When they say the south west of Ireland hasn't got a climate, but has weather, they're not kidding. Four seasons every hour. Walking 20plus kilometers a day, you notice these things. Grin. I had wet weather gear of course, but really needed the sort of oilskins you'd take on a salmon boat. Grin. One day in particular was a very long and slow hike across moorland, and the path, such as it was, was stony and in places invisible. I think I fell into every peat bog in the area. About 2k an hour was the best speed I could manage on that. But then I waded through some farmer's field, got baaaed at by a bunch of sheep, and found myself on a road with... a tiny PUB !!!! Irish coffee thawed me out and I dried out by the fire and glowed at the craic.
I had lots of adventures. Found a music shop in Dingle where the owner, a musician himself played me all his favourite local disks, we danced a jig, then he poured whiskey for us both. It was 10am. In a particularly heavy downpour, someone hollered for me to get in a hay truck and carted me to the next village. The food was awesome. Nothing like a good plate of Irish stew when your hands and feet are numb. Little B&B landladies plied me with home made cake and full Irish breakfasts (diet time now!) and told me the village gossip (just like I remember from my music evenings here how some of the women would go in the kitchen and talk about the rest of us.. grin... I was ' the bold one ' because I wore a red skirt!).
The Slea Head road was incredible. All the prehistoric forts and beehive shaped stone dwellings. And the famine huts too. This is where Ryan's Daughter was filmed (and Far and Away) and the locals still speak of it. You can see the Blasket Islands - evacuated in 1953 - full of strange, evocative tales and legends.
Then there were the dolmen rings in Kerry and Co Cork..... smaller than Stonehenge but without the tourist buses, silent and compelling.
But I'm raving on. It's 4am, and this is jetlag speaking. And a thread on friendship not gaddings. :-4

OK, I'm jumping in the pool, hope all the water doesn't splash out! Well, the people in here are the greatest, I love in here! They are caring, thoughtful, insightful, romantic, funny, fluffy, smart, conversationalists, that just about covers the entire spectrum! Where else can you get your putter problems fixed, jokes, advice, world wide opinions, & a broken heart mended, all in the same place?

I hope one day I'll get to meet some of those that have forever laid an impression on my heart :-4
