Dissecting Owl Puke
http://www.hawkin.com/rkmain.asp?PAGEID ... CODE=08385
Owl pellets (owl puke) are the mechanism that owls use to expel the undigestible parts of the animals that they eat, and most children dissect owl pellets at some time in their education. This box set contains a specially sterilised (but real) owl pellet, a dissecting tray and a 92 page full colour book crammed with information and fascinating facts as well as instructions on dissecting the pellet, identifying the animal bones that are found, reconstructing the skeleton and much more. If it all sound a bit gross, then you will understand why children enjoy it so much!

I would have bought this!
My daughter used to sit next to a kid who was Nit Central.
He used to lay his head on her shoulder and pass on the lil buggers! :-5
When he finally got moved away from her she stopped getting them!
I heard today that one good method was to use hair straigteners on your kids hair - it cooks the nits and kills them!
(Sorry to be gross, but ya have to know these things when you're a mum!
And at least I didn't tell y'all about combing out the nits and popping them between your fingernails!) :wah:

LOL! Yes that one appealed to me too Lulu! :wah:
Isn't it funny how some people won't touch stuff that other people find fascinating? My nephew loved this book - but his mum hated it! :wah:

Funnily enough we were wondering a while ago what happens to all the poop a zoo produces. (Interesting conversations that my family have! Lol!)
It must come in interesting sizes, shapes, shades and gloopiness.
There must be an interesting and probably eye-opening selection of 'methods of collection' also! :wah:

(Since this is my thread, I can step aside for a minute & tell you that large urban zoos must deal with thousands of pounds of poop every day. Elephants produce hundreds of pounds each! Strict laws apply to the disposal of exotic animal poop. It can't be dumped into regular trash bins or drains, due to the risk of passing on infection or some exotic diseases. So, specialized companies take it and sanitize it. Some will use the final product as a novelty item, for sale as fertilizer or even a garden "gift" item!
Poop is interesting in that animals who normally live in areas with lots of available water generally produce LOTS of it, while desert animals' bodies take out all possible moisture, so they drop little pellets. It's theoretically possible to stave off thirst by squeezing water from elephant poop and drinking it. :-3
Koalas could never exist on a diet of (normally toxic) eucalyptus leaves if they didn't have a particular enzyme in their gut. They're born without that enzyme and can only obtain it by eating mom's feces as they are extruded. The enzymes multiply and then the baby can eat on its own.
AND...Chonsi can tell you all about rabbits and their "night" and "day" feces!
I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't ask you all to consider carefully how you dispose of poop from your household animals. Please don't flush cat feces and please don't dump dog/cat feces into drains, especially if they ultimately empty into water sources!
Thanks.
And now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.
