Just a message for Gill here. Thank you so much for all the pics of the UK and you're advice on uploading. It's so simple for me now to right click and save as....didn't realize that. I do use photobucket, but they don't have some pics that I'm searching for. But, I love photobucket.

This is a pic of the area where my family live. It's called the Poison Glen in Dunlewy, Donegal. This Church is in the middle of a valley with Errigal Mountain (mountain I climbed ha ha. I'm so proud of myself), behind it. You have to climb down into this valley, and I've done it many times. Looks a lot like Scotland, doesn't it?? Scientists from all over the world come here to study the poisonous bogs.

I think I've said hello at times to all my new friends at FOC except I didn't meet Kay....Nice to meet you Kay. Hi Joannie...have you found a poem about the sea...I'd love to read one.

You've saved me hours of torture here Gill thanks. And one day I will also visit Scotland...it is so like Donegal.....my favorite place on earth.

Kathy, as you love Ireland so you would love Scotland. I have Welsh blood and Scottish blood in me - you could say I was of mixed race :wah: My grandmother on my mother's side was a true cockney (she having been born within the sound of Bow bells), so I have cockney in me as well ! (so Carol, just watch what you say to me matey !). My hubby Chris also has Scottish blood in him - Macdonald Clan Ancient (Lord of the Isles) from the Isle of Skye. This, strangely, is where my sister now lives and where we are hoping to also live, when we sell our house here. It was only after we had visited my sister a couple of years ago (the first time I'd seen Scotland), and fell in love with Skye, that we actually found out from Chris's sister about Chris's Scottish ancestry and the association with Skye ! Very strange that.

The Welsh part of me comes from my father's side. I don't think we have any Irish blood in us though.

My Dad used to go to the Port Talbot Grammar School, His father was an electrical engineer working down one of the coal mines in the area. He was a Scotsman working in Wales !

You are making me cry now with all your beautiful posts of the UK and especially of Cornwall and Scotland. When I first visited Ireland at the ripe old age of 19 I met my Auntie Ellen, who was my Nana's sister and never left Ireland. She stayed home to take care of the siblings. She lived in a wee cottage in the back of beyond of Donegal called Meenacross. Donegal people are called the 'Fardowners." My family finally made her life a little bit more comfortable by bringing in electricity and water to her home. She wouldn't leave and come live with us, and we kinda moved in with her as often as we could.

She would put on the turf fire every night, and she taught us Yanks the songs of Donegal. She also taught us the Skye Boat Song. That is the first song that my relative taught me how to play on a keyboard for a college course I had. We sing Skye Boat at all of our singing gatherings.

If you move one day to Skye I wish you lots of love, peace and happiness on this beautiful island. I love all of your tartans...what treasures. I have to come back again for better study of all your pics.

seeing as Gill is awol for the time being i thought i would put up a picture:D This is Penshaw Monument in Sunderland.



For many, Penshaw Monument is the sign that they are almost home, as it can be seen from many places in Tyne and Wear and County Durham. It was built in 1844 in honour of John George Lambton, the first Earl of Durham. The Monument stands 136 metres above sea level. It was designed to be a copy of the Theseion, the Temple of Hephaestus, in Athens. A rough path leads visitors up to the National Trust-owned Monument at any time, where there are stunning views.
