There's an unreconstructed Lancashire thread on today's Guardian, well written, I recommend it.
Pies are always fully encased in pastry, none of this slop with a crust only on top. They can be meat and potato or steak. If you’re vegetarian you can have a chicken pie, I suppose. You’re never more than 100 feet from a pie shop in Wigan.

Once i was "a people", then i was "a citizen" then i was "a consumer".......now im "an economical unit".
How did i find this out? Well there is a suggestion going round at the moment for a three or four day working week. That would take us from the longest hours working people to a people who have more of a balanced work life people.
But there were discussions about "the economical units" failing to keep up with something to do with wealth outcomes etc. Then a news reader explained that it wasnt to do with numbers but people. People are now economic units.
Thats disgusting! And i thought juat being a number was bad enough. Now im just a mechanism in a factory set of economics.
We're becoming less active and socialised since Auatralia did the turn around from the eight hour day....we work longer hours, sleep less, and eat badly. We need our 8 hours rest, 8 hours play and 8 hours work again. Be the people the world envied and loved.

I'm trying to understand how an "artist", whatever that means in this context, can have put up a traffic red triangle road sign in Finsbury Park warning of Jews and then not understood why this was considered in poor taste.
No, I'm not making it up.

Who was the 'artist' upsetting with the signs depicting a cat or a woman pulling a shopping trolley or a man pulling a wheelchair ?
Taken in combination with his other 'works' it is not as bad taste as in isolation.

Can you be sexually molested on a cricket pitch?
Just watching the highlights of the test in India. Apart from the thigh bruising of the batsman catching a ball between them...... is the wicket keeper allowed to physically touch the batsman to retrieve the ball before it falls to the ground?

It's cricket, retrieving the ball before it falls to the ground is the whole point. Killing the batsman in the process isn't an infringement.

...died when his iPhone charger made contact with the water at his home in Ealing, west London.
A coroner ruled his death was accidental and plans to send a report to Apple about taking action to prevent future deaths.
Man dies charging iPhone while in the bath - BBC News
What???
What has that to do with Apple!
For the last hundred years every child in Britain has been told over and over, don't put portable mains electricity in bathrooms. No electric fires, no hairdriers, no radio, nothing nothing nothing. It will kill you, you will die, it is lethal when water touches a bare live wire and you're soaking wet.
And this chap "plugged his charger into an extension cord from the hallway and rested it on his chest"? That's nothing to do with Apple, that's a Darwin Award entry, the article should win the All-England Stupid Death Of The Year Cup with room to spare just for bringing an extension cord near a filled bath.
And Apple gets blamed? APPLE?
The world's gone mad.
If there must be a written warning, let it be engraved on the face of every mains socket: "Connect anything from here to water you're touching and you will die". The reason it's not engraved there is that it's the best-known fact already.

.
And yet I can bet with absolute surety that one or more of the Microsoft-leaning PC magazines in the US will have an article with a headline something like: Are Apple chargers dangerous or even fatal? The following article will spout nonsense comparing Apple products to the Samsung disaster. It has become so predictable as to be almost humorous.

"In the past five years have you been treated for psychiatric or psychological problemss"
Is it just me or is that a very open ended non medical non scientific question? Normally when asked a question like that it has eg like stress or depression etc......... whats a "problem"?..... what if you are a complete nutter and dont have a problem with it??

On Tuesday night English cooked dinner for his family – a 1980s rural Kiwi classic: tinned spaghetti and pineapple pizza. Later, he posted a series of photos of his home-spun efforts on Facebook.
The photographs, blurry and un-retouched, caused a culinary uproar on Facebook and Twitter, with some Kiwis declaring they couldn’t vote for a prime minister who so wantonly bastardised Italian cuisine.

Connors’ husband and son, who were jailed last year following a high-profile modern slavery case, are applying for a temporary release from prison on compassionate grounds so they can attend her funeral.
Patrick Joseph Connors, 60, his son Patrick Dean Connors, 40, and nephew William Connors, 37, were all convicted of requiring a person to perform forced or compulsory labour between 2010 and 2013.
The men were found guilty of keeping their two victims – one of whom was identified as Michael Hughes, 47 – in “appalling conditions and paying them as little as £5. The judge at Cardiff crown court said the case could “only be described as modern-day slavery.
Connors senior received a 14-year sentence, and was also convicted of eight counts of assault, four of kidnap and one of conspiracy to kidnap. Patrick Dean received a six-and-a-half year sentence and William was jailed for four years.
