We have just returned from the zoo where we spent around two hours in and out of gorilla island. We were fortunate to be there when Jock, mum and baby were fed this afternoon and we have some awesome photographs that i will load on when i get home tonight.

Jock was being somewhat of a glutton and managed two get two oranges in his mouth and hid another in between his legs. He did some posing straight on camera for us so the photographs are far better than yesterdays.

We returned with a small gift for you all in memory of Jock and a small special gift for Odie.

Those wires (or walk rope not sure how big they are) are used by people all day long who walk across from one side to the other mostly kids. You always see the parents looking up and them coming across.
Look at the wire on the tree, to the left. The worker is up there right now.

Now if it was oscar, she could sneak right in there and get some close up shots!
The tightrope is just part of an adventure course and Oscar has said that she will return next week and get up there to get some better shots. She gets vertigo standing on a deep pile carpet but will risk the assault course just for you all to get better photographs. :-6

Oh Julie,

I am sooooo excited......I saw you about 1:30 UK time where you were waving frantically, and Pete was taking pics. Then I saw you again about an hour later, but when I tried to make the outside cam larger it took forever to reload and you were gone.

I know what you and Pete look like:-6. But, I could see you very clearly especially due to your back hair and slacks and purple shirt. I could see Pete but not make out his image due to lighter colored clothes.

Oh, I was so thrilled to see you...Did you see me waving back to you:yh_rotfl:-4

Oh, I was so thrilled to see you...Did you see me waving back to you:yh_rotfl:-4 I'm so thrilled you saw me. When I was waving, I was shouting 'HELLO AMERICA'.... It was quite crowded there today and folk were looking at me very strangely. When you saw us under the tightrope and Pete was pointing the camera, what you couldn't see was one of the Gorilla's in the long grass sitting there looking at us with his back tio the web cam. Pete got pics of him in the grass.

We kept going in and out as the keepers kept moving them as they were cutting the grass on the Island. I so hoped you saw us....... Did my make-up look Ok? :yh_rotfl

We got you all a suveneer of Jock which I'll post off asap to you all. :-4

You were spot on as it must have been 1.30 pm our time we were under the tighrope.

Oh, I know it does sound silly perhaps, but I was beyond excited to see you both waving to us. You looked absolutely terrific and your make up was spot on:-4 It was just so hard to really see Pete's features though...I think there was maybe too much sunlight on him and his clothes were too light. Next time make sure he wears a purple shirt and chartreuse slacks:yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl Then, I'm sure we'll see him.....:D:p

I want to thank you and Pete for sharing your zoo with us. We all love it and can't wait to see the gorillas each day. I look tons of times to see what the gorillas are up to.

This site is so nice because it seems to connect the Yanks with the UK'ers in such a lovely bonding way, I think:-4

I will definitely put my email on their mailing list and send a contribution soon.

We did tell the staff today that they were being watched from all over the world and we did give a donation for the Lowland Gorilla Conservation project on behalf of FG as well. They have many species of monkeys in there called 'Monkey World' and you can go into an area with the Lemurs where they are all around you natural and not in enclosures.. I particually love the South American fur seals and of course, the Lions. It is a wonderful educational centre for children as well. I could live in there:-4:-4

I must apologise to you all as the quality of the photographs is not what i hoped. It was very difficult to photograph Jock who kept moving and the reflection on the glass was annoying and although i have tried to cut out the glare, this is the best i could do. Julie is going back next week when if they have finished pruning the island, she should be able to get clearer shots from outside.

The children are on school holidays and so it was also difficult to compete with the crowds to get good shots.

One chap was telling me a story of how a year ago he jumped the barrier to get a closer photograph of Jock when he leapt down from his bed, charged and banged his fist on the glass. Hence, we stayed behind the barrier. :wah:
