I'm sure you are.

No.

I expect it's to rile people up. What makes you think they're from "the Mod lounge"?

Because the person who sent the PMs..claimed to be another mod ... and why would they lie .

As a moderator I look through all posts and pics and sigs to check that no-one violates the TOS.

I have given infractions to members who I have considered my friend and lost their friendship because of it, hey-ho.

I dont post as often as I did because of it.

If a member like summer gets an infraction for insulting another member and then carries on doing it then she gets another one,

3 strikes and you're out, simple as that.

We tried snooze's suggestion (splitting the mods into area's) a couple of years ago and it did'nt work imo,

mainly because of the time differences, I'd come on FG in the morning and I would'nt be able to access an area full of obsene posts or spam because the mod for that area was in bed.

As for me "Putting pressure" on another mod to get someone banned, if you knew me you would know that the idea is laughable.

This thread has made me very sad knowing you feel this way.

There are various parts of FG which are accessible only to moderators. Some have a different degree of confidentiality to others. If you saw something from an area reserved for moderators I expect you saw something from a non-confidential section.

As for "why would they lie" you're presumably attempting humour. You might just as well ask why would they stir.

I came here to the garden at a friends suggestion after they and some others were bullied off another site. I for one am grateful this place has moderators. The other site we were on did not and it was totally shocking to see how exremely vicious and cruel some people could be towards others. I have seen spats/ arguments/ rows on here but nothing even close to how bad it was there. There was a report button which was automated, and anyone could press it so people got banned for a few hours, days or even life. this was and still is totally abused. I got bans myself, and they dont even tell you why, just an automated response to say you have posted something abusive or offensive, or broke the TOC. I can assure you i have never posted anything abusive or offensive. Anyway my point is, if it came down to a choice of wether we should have moderators or not, i would definately choose to have them.

by the way, i would hate to be a mod:thinking:

I can't imagine any answer would be forthcoming since discussion in the moderator areas is necessarily confidential and sometimes based in part on information that doesn't appear in public threads.

I have got to share this story, when I first joined Tombstone asked people to let him know if they would be prepared to be a mod, well I sent him a PM volunteering. Not long after my back went gain and I was really sick, I was in and out of hospital and on pethidine for the pain, lots of pethidine. When I felt a little better about 3 months later I came back on line, because I could view something in the compost file, I thought that meant I was a mod, well I was saying all this to Jim and the little sod didn't tell me that everyone can go there:-5

Well to cut a long story short he let me PM Tombstone to ask if I was in fact a MOD, he sat there with tears running down his face after I sent the send button, so it has been a long standing joke ever since:-5

Obviously you all understand that I was high on drugs while all this took place :o:wah:

You would say that because your deflecting .

Whats the point of having an open discussion if the Mods refuse to answer stuff . This isn't about me (although i could quite happily mention my own run-ins with the Mods and i'm sure there are many others who could do the same ) .

...if i wanted to stirr i would mention the member who complained about one of the Mods recently and got a reply telling them - they were out of order and they should apologise for making the complaint. Its all in black and white ..you couldn't make it up:cool:.

She isn't stirring, she's trying not to involve me.

I'd like to clarify Pants' comments... someone, apparently one of the mods, has been anonymously emailing me screen grabs from the mod forum here that discussed me in particular. It seems that if anyone 'questionable' joins this forum, it's automatically assumed it's me, even if the IP address isn't correct, and a couple of the mods were discussing it and asking if they could 'keep me'... whatever that means. This anonymous person told me she felt I could use this info since I'm 'their biggest opponent.'

I don't plan to go into specifics or post the screen grabs since I've already forwarded that on to the mods and admin (without receiving any responses, by the way) but I don't like seeing my friend Pants being abused once again while spot pretends ignorance/innocence.

Alright, I'm braced! I imagine I'll be disappearing like Summerishere did.

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

When the posts you're creating seems all up hill,

When the replies are low, and the views are high,

And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,

When care is pressing you down a bit,

Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with it's twists and turns,

As everyone of us sometimes learns,

And many a failure turns about,

When he might have won had he stuck it out.

Don't give up though the pace seems slow,

You may succeed with another go.

Success is failure turned inside out,

The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,

And you never can tell how close you are,

It may be near when it seems so far,

So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,

It's when things seem worse,

That you must not quit.

I have two options - quit giving them my business because they made that decision without consulting me or live my life the same way I always do and leave them to run their business.

We all have our own individual opinions and whos to say anyone opinion is any more right than another . The way i see it, this thread was opened for a reason and i along with everyone else asked the questions that i alone wanted some answer's too ... i didn't believe for one second that i would get those answers but i put them down all the same and as far as i'm concerned if it helps just one person speak up who other wise would not of, for fear of repercussions then any hostility aimed at me will be worth it (i don't mean from you ) .

I also think the fact that Summer was banned may have an affect on people saying their piece.

If any one expects the mods to reprint our discussions on the public boards they will be waiting a long time. You act as though you've been infracted for posting in here, pants. That just isn't true. Neither has Snooze's account been infracted. I don't even think that her current account is close to a banning. There are some people who punish themselves the more they write. imo, both of you fall into that category.

Continue, if you must. As I've said, I'm a masochist more than a sadist so it's quite unenjoyable to read but, if it makes you feel better, carry on.

If the point is to see what you need to write to get banned you could just start at the top of the likeliness list and work your way down instead of the reverse. It would save a lot of time.

seems to imply that you are being punished for posting in this thread, or expect it.

Certainly members have a right to ask for answers.

Certainly mods have the right to answer in the way they see appropriate.

Certainly members don't have the right to demand that mods say or do something that we do not feel is appropriate. What you feel you need from this board is true for you, but for you only. Many members do not feel the need to have soap operas littering the forum. Both needs should be considered.

you're seriously asking this question again?

I don't mean to sound... negative... but we've already answered that.

The mods are able to post as regular members. Marking names as mods gives the impression that we have extra status and none of us wish to be seen that way.

I'm sorry if the answer was lost in all the other posts made here. I don't want you, or anyone else, to think we ignored the question though.

Mods do have extra status so to speak, but IMO mods. represent the 'company' and as such should be particularly careful not to be biased.

I haven't read all the thread but I agree with that. Mods get privileges and responsibility and I don't see how these can be switched off. It's a bit like being a prefect at school. You're selected, presumably because God thinks you're good blokes/blokesses and worthy leaders, and if you accept you are always a prefect, even when you're not officially on duty. So there's no such thing as ever again being quite like the unselect, unwashed masses who don't get to go in the Prefects Study where the chosen ones get coffee, toast, possibly marshmallows and the key to the executive washroom.
