A hug is two arms
Wrapped around you tight,
A hug is a squeeze
in the middle of the night.
A hug is a sign
Of affection and love,
A hug is a sign
From the heavens above.
A hug is a thing
That everyone needs,
When you give a hug
You plant a seed.
The seeds of hope
And love and joy,
Belong to every man,
Woman, girl and boy.

It's wond'rous what a hug can do.
A hug can cheer you when you're blue.
A hug can say, "I love you so"
Or, "Gee, I hate to see you go"
A hug is, "Welcome back again! "
And "Great to see you!"
Or "Where've you been?"
A hug can soothe a small child's pain
And bring a rainbow after rain.
The hug! There's just no doubt about it,
We scarcely could survive without it.
No longer do you have to worry,
For a hug is the way to say "I'm sorry."
A hug delights and warms and charms,
It must be why we all have arms.
Hugs are great for fathers and mothers,
Sweet for sisters, as well for brothers
Chances are some favorite aunt
Loves them more than potted plants.
Kittens crave them
Puppies love them.
Heads of State
Are not above them.
A hug can break
The language barrier
And make the dullest day
Seem merrier.
No need to fret
About the store of 'em.
The more you give
The more there are of 'em
So stretch those arms without delay,
GIVE SOMEONE A HUG TODAY!

Are these poems about "real" hugs or "cyber hugs"?

I liked them that's why I posted them but what do they really mean to you reading them?

They mean (my poems) reality to me. Why do so many people need hugs from "cyber" are they not getting "real" hugs from home? I :-4 every person/member I have met here. Does that mean I really :-4 them or do I :-4 that they are nice, supportive, and just a way to pass time? Where do you draw the line between what is "real" and what is not? I know where to draw the line do others? Don't get me wrong here, the people here are some of the best people you could ever hope to meet. A hug to me is what the poems describe them to be...feeling the hug

well it's like you say, there are some really nice people here and i like them a lot, but they are usually so far away that there's no chance of hugging them for real so a cyber hug is all we have.
now that has nothing to do with if you are or aren't getting affection in real life, a cyber hug is about wanting to express affection to those people who you can't express it any other way.

being alone ... lonliness must be so so terrible! i can imagine nothing worse than waking up on any given morning and realizing that today ... just like yesterday ... and just like tomorrow ... nobody is gonna care whether i am still alive ... nobody is gonna hug me ... nobody is gonna give me a kiss ...
whether your feeling sad ... weary ... alone or just plain thinking "what am i doing on this planet?" ... a hug ... not to mention a kiss ... always makes you feel a lot better!
so if there is anyone out there who needs a hug and a kiss ... pop in here and ol' Jj will be happy to oblige and even listen to you ... not just HEAR but LISTEN!

Hello PJ,
Just wondering why the "Hugs and kissy" things are bothering you. I believe that the majority of members of the FG understand that hugs and kisses are just a show of affection and not the "real thing." Most members here have real lives and get plenty of affection from family and friends. But, it's also so nice to visit the FG and be validated by cyber friends here that they like you and wish all the best for you.
I've been a member since March '06 and have grown to love many members here because from talking to them via pm's, emails, and phone I believe that I know their heart and character.
I have met two member, in real life and we are great friends. I also know that there are some members here that would drop everything to come to help me if need be...vise versa.
If all goes well for me next summer I plan to visit Ireland and the UK and will certainly be meeting up with members here at the FG. That doesn't mean that we're lonely. It means that we like each other's heart and character and it would be a kick to meet them for fun and give them a real hug.
So here's a big hug for you PJ..... ((((PJ))))

hi Pj ... i am certain that every member of FG shares your concern, outrage and disgust at what happened to that twelve year old girl ...
however the scum who prey upon children have been around since long before the advent on the internet and will without doubt still be active long after its demise ...
paedophiles are fiends who will use every avenue available to them to get their filthy hands on their prey and unfortunately the internet is one of them ...
having said that ...not every person who shows another affection in cyberland
is a potential child abuser or paedophile nor is everyone seeking affection a potential victim ...
the sexual abuse of children is the vilest of crimes and those who commit it are vile fiends who make the return of the death penalty a must ...
Pj please continue to voice your anger against paedophiles and the abuse of not only children ... but all victims ...

Thank you Jj. One of my best friends 2 years ago was tracked by her IP address by a person she met on line. He showed up at her home and TG she was not harmed and the person was arrested for "internet stalking". PLEASE I am not saying any FG member is like this man was. It just scares me as to how close you can get involved with a "cyber" friend. I love this hugs thread and never meant for anyone to think I didn't. It's just we all need to use caution and beware of what we ask for and what we dilvuge about ourselves (AGAIN, this is just MY opinion) and not meant to any way put down this thread or any FG member.

Pj you are 100% correct to advise caution about exactly what we devulge about ourselves over the internet ... and this does not only apply to women and minors ...
i for one have an absolute phobia about not transmitting my own photograph thru the internet ... i have this ongoing nightmare about finding that MY head has been transposed onto the body of a man performing some unspeakably vile and horrendous act ... and don't tell me this cannot be done! there is a site on the internet where you CAN ... for a price of course ... have YOUR head put on any body you choose ...
call me paranoid and i probably am but it is my choice and i am gonna stick with it ... i am not a computer geek ... in fact quite the opposite ... i am a complete dumbass when it comes to computers ... but can you be tracked right to your home address by your IP address?
i googled and came up with this ...
]Are You Invisible Online?
It's true that your IP address is no secret. It's a basic part of internet communication protocols to send your IP address whenever you connect to another site, request a web page, chat, play an online game, etc. Without your IP address, the computer on the other end wouldn't know where to send the reply.
But that doesn't mean that Evildoers can find your house if they know your IP address. Each time you go online (if you have dialup) or each time you start your computer (if you have cable or dsl) you will be assigned an IP address, randomly selected from a pool of IP's assigned to your Internet service provider (ISP).
WHO IS Your ISP
So a person MIGHT be able to get a general idea of your geographic location, based on your IP address, by doing a lookup on the WHOIS database, but that will only tell them the physical location of your ISP -- not YOUR home address.
And if you use a large regional or nationwide ISP, the IP lookup probably reveals nothing of interest. For example, if you are an AOL subscriber, your IP address lookup will show the location as Dulles, Virginia -- regardless of where you live.
When The Law Comes A Knockin'
Of course there is an exception to every rule. If Joe or Jane User calls your ISP and wants to know who was using a certain IP address last Tuesday, the ISP will tell them to go away. But if an officer of the law hands your ISP a court order to reveal that information, they must do so. Your ISP's logs will enable them to determine which customer was using a certain IP address on a certain date & time, and they must reveal that information if a court has found probable cause that a crime was committed by that person.
But for the truly paranoid (or the criminally inclined) there are ways to surf the web anonymously. The Anonymizer service will act as a proxy between you and your ISP, and they claim that your information cannot be subpoenaed because they do not store it.
What About Email Addresses?
The same concepts apply to your email address. The part that follows the "@" sign is your ISP's domain name. And given the domain name, one can determine the ISP's physical location, but nothing personally identifying about the email user without a court order.
Web-based email accounts are not truly anonymous, either. Even if you don't provide your real name when signing up, they can capture your IP address and track you through your ISP if necessary.
Other Considerations
It's much more likely that you or your children will reveal your physical location the old fashioned way -- by just blurting it out. Kids who chat or play online games should be reminded often that they should never reveal any personal information, including their last name, phone number or home address.
Oh, and if you have any spyware or viruses on your system, all bets are off. These things are designed to violate your privacy.
