AFTR's Daily Commute
Today, let's crash this party..........
California Beer Festival - Ventura, CA - September 18, 2010
:D
Today is Saturday and I had to work. Got off at 2 pm, and went to the grocery store. Came home, unloaded and put away the groceries. Then started making spaghetti for supper. Hubby came home from work aound 4 pm. We chatted awhile, he change shirts and went outside to do some wood working. I smell tomato sauce.
For some reason, I am bushed.

It's still Sunday and I'm still silly.
Since Nomad likes to collect pictures of the bazaar, I'm going to leave the one below for him upon his return to FG. He may use it if he wishes.
I've just added another one he may want to use...............

Now I'm a bit worried about the guy. Hope to see him post here soon at least.

"Last Days Of Summer"
Silverstein
The bright light beams
From her eyes
Like broken glass.
Or a broken heart,
Who would have guessed?
You'd leave me here.
Beneath my eyes I feel the tears,
I hold back.
I won't leave, leave this way again.
I won't leave this way.
As my legs
They start to shake,
I feel nothing.
I wanted you, (I wanted you!)
I needed you,
But you weren't there for me this time. (There for me!)
I won't leave, leave this way again.
I won't leave this way.
You that I loved!
That I needed!
You weren't there.
Not this time!
You!
What can I do?!
I was supposed to love you!
What can I say?!
I won't leave,
What can I do?!
I was supposed to help you!
I cannot feel you!
Last breath I feel!
Warm air intake!
Last summer's day!
Last one I take!
For you!
I won't leave!
Leave this way!
I won't leave
Lost it all!
All for you!
I won't leave.
When the shadows beam!
Misery remains!
I won't leave this time.
Here is the song:

Nomad
I come from a people who are condemned
to wander through strange lands.
Three days they walked
in the shadow of Babel
lost among the fog of its speech.
I inherit from their time
the stuttering of their attempts.
Of my race
I possess the trait of the absence that gives me away.
You ask me therefore to declare myself
beyond my blood
but,
before the storm,
before the floods,
before the gaze,
before my orphanhood,
before the fires,
before the shadows that preceded those fires,
there was a before
that my memory asks a ransom for,
but,
my accent cannot
return to its song.
I have arrived too late
the rains have passed,
the rivers have returned to their source,
the cities have raised themselves on the horizon,
and the entrance is forbidden to me
Here, at its doors
I wait for
the resurrection of my memory
into an I that I was
And therefore you ask me
to renounce
my names
my blood
my heritage
and to disguise myself with your voice
and declare myself beyond it all
in this language
foreign to my heart
my race continues in search of the tongue
lost
before infancy.
Translated from the Spanish by Alexandra van de Kamp.
Marta Lopez-Luaces was born in A Coruna, Spain. She is the author of this poem.

I await my favorite season with a certain amount of excitement.

AFTR's Daily Commute
Today is officially the first day of autumn for this year 2010. Even though the weather is the same as it was yesterday, warm and sunny, it feels different to me. There's a sense of anticipation of cooler breezes, brighter colors, the smell of leaves burning, darker cozier evenings. These last few months of the year always seem to fly by, so I try to enjoy the days while they last. The winding down of another year. A little sad and inevitable.
Below is a photo taken one autumn day years ago of two of my children playing in the leaves.

It is the first day of fall and it feels like it here, though we are still in for some good weather.

I found this clip of the wonderful Judy Garland:
YouTube - As Long As He Needs Me - Judy Garland, 1964
As long as he needs me
I know where I must be
I'll cling on steadfastly
As long as he needs me
As long as life is long
I'll love him, right or wrong
And somehow I'll be strong
As long as he needs me
If you are lonely then you will know
When someone needs you, you love them so
I won't betray his trust
Though people say I must
I've got to stay true just
As long as he needs me
If you are lonely then you will know
When someone needs you, you love them so
I won't betray his trust
Though people say I must
I've got to stay true just
As long as he needs me.

Hey kaz!
I first heard that song in the movie, "Oliver" and thought it was such a touching little song about love and devotion. And to hear Judy Garland sing it......wow!

Well, today is a rainy Sunday where I live. But.....I like it. We needed the rain for one thing. And it's just a good day to relax at home. I can always find something to do.

My sorrow, when she's here with me,
Thinks these dark days of autumn rain
Are beautiful as days can be;
She loves the bare, the withered tree;
She walks the sodden pasture lane.

I know, I know.....it's not November yet. But I do like the poem, especially with the picture below. And it has been another rainy day here.

October by Robert Frost
O hushed October morning mild,
Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;
Tomorrow's wind, if it be wild,
Should waste them all.
The crows above the forest call;
Tomorrow they may form and go.
O hushed October morning mild,
Begin the hours of this day slow.
Make the day seem to us less brief.
Hearts not averse to being beguiled,
Beguile us in the way you know.
Release one leaf at break of day;
At noon release another leaf;
One from our trees, one far away.
Retard the sun with gentle mist;
Enchant the land with amethyst.
Slow, slow!
For the grapes' sake, if the were all,
Whose elaves already are burnt with frost,
Whose clustered fruit must else be lost--
For the grapes' sake along the all.

My favorite Elvis song:
YouTube - Kentucky Rain - Elvis Presley
Something you should know about Kentucky Rain Lyrics
Title: Elvis Presley - Kentucky Rain lyrics
Artist: Elvis Presley
Seven lonely days
And a dozen towns ago
I reached out one night
And you were gone
Don't know why you'd run,
What you're running to or from
All I know is I want to bring you home
So I'm walking in the rain,
Thumbing for a ride
On this lonely Kentucky backroad
I've loved you much too long
And my love's too strong
To let you go, never knowing
What went wrong
Kentucky rain keeps pouring down
And up ahead's another town
That I'll go walking thru
With the rain in my shoes,
Searchin for you
In the cold Kentucky rain,
In the cold Kentucky rain
Showed your photograph
To some old gray bearded man
Sitting on a bench
Outside a gen'ral store
They said "Yes, she's been here"
But their memory wasn't clear
Was it yesterday,
No, wait the day before
So I fin'ly got a ride
With a preacher man who asked
"Where you bound on such a dark afternoon?"
As we drove on thru the rain
As he listened I explained
And he left me with a prayer
That I'd find you

AFTR's Daily Commute
"I know the year is dying,
Soon the summer will be dead.
I can trace it in the flying
Of the black crows overhead;
I can hear it in the rustle
Of the dead leaves as I pass,
And the south wind's plaintive sighing
Through the dry and withered grass.
Ah, 'tis then I love to wander,
Wander idly and alone,
Listening to the solemn music
Of sweet nature's undertone;
Wrapt in thoughts I cannot utter,
Dreams my tongue cannot express,
Dreams that match the autumn's sadness
In their longing tenderness."
- Mortimer Crane Brown, Autumn Dreams
"Bittersweet October. The mellow, messy, leaf-kicking, perfect pause
between the opposing miseries of summer and winter."

Cheer up!
Fall’s Chores
Summer’s getting drowsy now;
Soon she will be dozing;
Flowers are folding up their heads,
Another season’s closing.
Fall is waiting in the wings,
Impatient to get going,
He has a lot of work to do,
Before it’s time for snowing.
"I have to paint the leaves," he says,
"In shades of red and gold,
And send the geese along their way
Before it gets too cold.
"I’ll ripen pumpkins on the vine,
For sweet Thanksgiving pies,
And plump the apples on the trees
To make cider that satisfies.
"Sunshiny days will be shorter now;
I’ll add a cool, crisp breeze;
For this relief from summer heat,
I make no apologies.
"I have just one more thing to do;
My work is almost done;
I’ll turn the leaves to crunchy piles,
So kids can have fall fun!"

AFTR's Daily Commute
Saturday, I spent a special day with my son and daughter. One of the places we went to was the grave of my firstborn son....their brother. I will always miss him and love him, but I do count my blessings with the other children I have.
When God calls little children
to dwell with Him above,
We mortals sometime question
the wisdom of His love.
For no heartache compares with
the death of one small child
Who does so much to make our world,
seem wonderful and mild.
Perhaps God tires of calling
the aged to his fold,
So He picks a rosebud,
before it can grow old.
God knows how much we need them,
and so He takes but few
To make the land of Heaven
more beautiful to view.
Believing this is difficult
still somehow we must
The saddest word mankind knows
will always be "Goodbye."
So when a little child departs,
we who are left behind
Must realize God loves children,
Angels are hard to find.

AFTR's Daily Commute
Thank you, Odie.
Darren only lived on this earth for a little over four months. He caught meningitis quite suddenly while we were stationed in Germany and died there. My ex-husband was in the military at the time and we came home to the States right away with our son's body. For a time, we lived close to the cemetary here in Georgia. I would visit the gravesite almost everyday and mourn. My ex seemed to be able to move on with his life better than I could and I resented that to a degree. Every thing seemed to happen so fast and it was hard for me to bear at times. Getting pregnant again helped, but I was scared too. Well, ironically, our second son caught meningitis here in Georgia. But, because we mentioned to the doctor about the loss of our first son, the hospital ran the proper tests immediately and was able help and cure our second son. Sometimes, I believe our little angel Darren saved his brothers life and watches over his sister and other brother. I like to think so.

Such a tragedy you and your ex-husband endured to loose a son so young. I find a lot of men get over things much quicker than we do. I understand why you resented him, you were still in mourning and needed him to be with you.
I believe your right, Darren is a little angel who saved his brothers life.:-4

I know how hard that must have been for you AFTR:-4and how scary when your second son got the same disease, but as you say.. his brothers death was not in vain as it helped to save your second sons life. Life is indeed strange sometimes is'nt it,,, and hard to bear at times also. You are the same as me AFTR as in i have a son and daughter, but also lost a son. You never forget them :-4

To the outside world we all grow old. But not to brothers and sisters. We know each other as we always were. We know each other's hearts. We share private family jokes. We remember family feuds and secrets, family griefs and joys. We live outside the touch of time. ~Clara Ortega

These two photos of myself and Hubby were taken at two different times and in two different states. I cherish them because they are so similar. How were we to know that one day we would meet and fall in love and marry? ♥♥
