It's a sunny and humid day in Boston. The whole week looks sunny and 75 degrees.

Now THAT'S a reason to smile :)
Yeppers. I like summer. I have never been up to Boston but I have an older brother who has lived in Boston for years. Retired now. He must love it there. He goes to dog tracks I think. Or at least he did some time back. My sisters have been there to see him.

I live less than five minutes from a big dog track. I wonder if your bro goes there. What town does he live in?

Heeeee. I do that lots if its just me gonna eat. But I was making for my grand daughter too. She loves mashed potatoes.

I heard some comedian saying he never eats anything you cannot hold in your fingers. then he eats it over the kitchen sink and just washes the sink down after.

I do try to make one dish meals most the time like casseroles. I can tell you one easy way to make supper and not use much dishes. If you have one of those sandwich makers you can get a box of jiffy corn bread mix and make cornbread in that. While its making you can nuke a can of beans. I like the blackeyed peas or ranch style beans.

What kind was it? I like Campbells vegetable and beef. Mom used to make oxtail soup. I loved it. My brother was a butcher and he got the tail as part of his pay. YOu need to boil the tail one evening then put it in the fridge and next day skim off the fat then ad the stuff you want like celery and tomatoes and potatoes and onilons and simmer it.

My daughter will hardly eat beans unless I make fried potatoes and cornbread. We cut up an onion to go with it. But its work to make fried potatoes. I usually make pinto beans with hamhocks if I make beans from scratch.

When I left my sons new apartment yesterday, he helped me carry some tools down to my car. As we stood chatting, there was sudden movement and 2 youths ran out of the property a couple of doors up. They had stuff under their arms and masks over their faces as they ran into the park opposite the apartments. It was pitch black in the park and there was nothing we could have done anyway. My son said they'd probably be armed and it wasn't worth the risk. Just after that there was a sound from the apartments. Not quite a scream, but an anguished female sound. We started walking over and then out of nowhere came a bike and on it another hooded and masked individual who just raced past us. I saw him drop something and went over to pick it up. It was a bag full of Polish banknotes. My son called the Police who responded very quickly to my surprise. They apprehended one of the youths with a DVD player in his possession. The Police said they'd return the money to the woman. She had apparently opened the door and they had just barged past her. She is 51 years old, lives alone and is recovering from a stroke. My son is taking some flowers round to her this afternoon. If she'll open the door that is.

i know how you feel its a sick world out there a few years ago i was walking back from the pub and i saw a burglar coming out of a downstairs window i grabbed him from behind threw him on the ground twisted his arm up his back and sat on him till the police arrived ... think i did good guess again

because the guy was leaving the building and had not taken anything (he only left the loot because he had been disturbed )

he tried to get me done for assault and i was on bail for a month till they dropped the charges

the burglar of course got off Scott free and probably had a holiday somewhere at our expense

If theres anything to be said here its that you can be very proud of your son. And I suspect the apple didnt fall far from the tree. Pat yourself on the back for doing the hardest job of raising a child very well. Salute.

I have never thought of beans on toast. I am gonna try that some day. I eat whole wheat all the time so it is a bit different taste than white. My ex used to eat her cornbread with beans by crumbling it up and adding sugar to it then the beans. And she ate jelly on her bologna sandwichs. Some here eat jelly on sausage biscuits. I think I prefer savoury or salty to sweet.

Sorry, this isn't random, it's a reply with questions (& a comment!):

Sugary beans? Eurgh!

What's a "bologna sandwich"?

What's a "sausage biscuit"?

They might have been armed? Isnt guns illegal there? Of course they could have been armed with some other weapon. But there is an arguement here that if they do outlaw guns here then only outlaws will own guns.

My grandson just got robbed here in Salt Lake City Utah. Its the home of the Mormon religion so who would think of getting robbed there. The guy did not have a gun though. He had a fish filet knife. Luckily my grandson didnt get hurt.
