Japan never kept to the 'rules', as there were no rules as far as they were concerned, not having signed up to the Geneva Convention. As far as I'm concerned, negotiation shouldn't even be an option. These murderers have no official recognition & therefore have no basis on which to negotiate. They are not representative of the people or any Government. They are Terrorists, plain & simple. Any accession made to them during negotiation would be a victory as far as they are concerned & proof positive that Terrorism works. This cannot be allowed to happen. They have laid the Ground Rules of a 'No Rules' scenario. Our only chance is to play by their rules. They have thrown down the Gauntlet. It's up to us to pick it up.

* The U.S. didn't follow any rules when they expanded their trade control over the Pacific and blockaded and harassed the Japanese from following the same line of business.

It strikes me that IS are on a similar par to looters during / immediately after a riot. They claim to be protesting about some cause or another, but in reality all they are doing is to take advantage of the temporary breakdown of an orderly structure to their best advantage without any real interest in the cause whatsoever.
The cause, in this case, is Islam. This has been shown, worldwide, by the protests of Muslim, of all creeds, be they Sunni, Shia, or whatever. Most of them are actually embarrassed & disgusted by what is happening, supposedly in the name of Islam, as most Moslems will agree that what they are doing is in total conflict of the teachings of the Q'uran.
This is not, as they would have you believe a crusade for the glory of Islam, but an attempt to 'loot' power.

I was watching targetted US air strikes last night.
I watched with a mixture of shock and amazement and, can I say pleasure (Not the best word I am sure) the bombardment of Baghdad, with the commentary saying how targetted they were taking out whatever and whoever the Allies needed to take out.
We never saw in detail the torn bodies, the blasted torsoes in blooded ambulances, aged victims, children, amputations ,decapitations, all from remote faceless assassins high in the night sky.
At least these latest monsters have the courage to show the barbarity that is out and out war.
