Zombie Alert: Man Throws His Own Intestines At Police

The day after Miami's horrendous face-chewing incident, a New Jersey man's freakout fuels rumors of a zombie apocalypse.

By Melissa Locker | @woolyknickers | May 31, 2012 | 17

Earlier this week, on an equally unsettling note, Miami police officers stand watch near naked Rudy Eugene, second from right, who was shot dead by a police officer when he refused to stop chewing on the face of the naked man next to him, Saturday, May 26, 2012.

And so it begins.

On Saturday, a grisly attack left a Miami, Florida man in critical condition after 75% of his face was gnawed off by a naked man who was shot dead by the police. The vicious incident (which the internet has blamed on an overdose of the new drug bath salts), combined with other shady, not-entirely-substantiated news reports of mysterious illnesses and folks running around Florida in HazMat suits, has conspiracy theorists talking about the inevitable zombie apocalypse.

Adding fuel to the fire is the bizarre case of Wayne Carter, a New Jersey man allegedly cut out his intestines and then threw them at the police on Sunday.

The gruesome scene played out at Carter’s Hackensack, N.J., home, after Police were called to the scene based on reports that the 43-year old man was barricaded in his room with a knife and planning on harming himself, according to the local NBC station. The cops kicked in the door and ordered Carter to drop the knife. Ignoring the officers’ orders, Carter allegedly began stabbing himself in the abdomen, neck and legs instead. Attempts to subdue him with pepper spray did nothing but seem to enrage him. That’s when officers say Carter began throwing pieces of his skin and entrails at the cops. Wisely, the police retreated.

The police called in the Bergen County SWAT team, who were able to eventually subdue Carter and get him to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition. No charges have been filed because of the unusual nature of the case, according to NBC New York. Hackensack police Lt. John Heinemann told reporters that he believes drugs or mental illness may have led to the horrific incident, but those details haven’t been confirmed. After everything else this week, Zombie apocalypse seems just as likely anyway.

So already you have escalated the force required, last time "a blow" now it is a length of four by two, and you I would suggest have never had the problem of controlling such a person and you dismiss the police actions who do it all the time so have more insight into the problem.

You invent as you go along. You asked how I'd have dealt with it, a facetious question, to which I facetiously replied that I'd render him unconscious - did I say with a blow? I can't recall. Now you facetiously ask me how I do it, hence the prop. I've escalated nothing. The matter is whether a prone naked man, on drugs or otherwise, can only be stopped by a fully equipped pair of officers by being gunned to death. They carry a tool designed to render him or anyone else, on drugs or otherwise, unconscious with one blow.

Though it does seem from news reports that American police are beginning to resort to gun usage more and more frequently that it may appear to be "all the time".

Florida does not have Zombies.

The Incident and others similar to It are linked to the craze of a new Illegal high dubbed ' Bath Salts'.

The active chemical In it Is called Cathinone, which is a schedule one Illegal drug. Also known as “Pump It Powder,” “Purple Incense,” or “Aromatic Sashay,” and It says not for human consumption.

If taken, It can cause vivid hallucinations.

No wonder Oscar gets peed off with some of your replies.

For the casual reader the full story, from direct quotes.

Facetiousness my arse.

You have had the opportunity to view the 'half naked' person apparently woken and attacked by having his face 'eaten' by a drug crazed assailant who 'growled' when approached by an armed police officer demanding he stop only to continue the assault.

The question "What would you do" was serious.

Inexplicable, by someone that has never been in the same situation ?

Tazers have proven not to be affective.

Close contact wrestling with a blood soaked naked body is at most ill advised, given the possible consequences of AIDs contamination.

If there had been four officers present, a scrum of officers might still be not the best option.

Have you considered the officer was in fear of his own life, and that he might have had some experience dealing with drug or drink enraged people on a daily basis ?

I think also, the officers may have summed up the very serious condition the victim was In given the loss of blood and getting the victim medical assistance asap was paramount. The victim could easily have died of blood loss or choked to death on his own blood seeing as he was unconcious. They are hardly going to stand around umming and arhing In a situation like that.

Does anyone know whether US police officers on patrol carry nightsticks? Can we clear that bit up at least? What in the UK we've occasionally referred to as trucheons, effectively. Long, solid, good grip positions, intended among other things for knocking people unconscious.

I found this:

“The first claim seeks compensation for time spent putting on and taking off the police uniform and equipment required for conducting police activity. For convenience of analysis, this claim is considered as it applies to patrol officers. The DPD Operations Manual prescribes the basic uniform to be worn on duty. It consists of a uniform shirt, uniform trousers, trouser belt, socks and authorized footwear. (DPD Op. Manual § 111.02.) A uniformed officer is generally required to carry a metal badge and nameplate, current DPD identification card, a valid Colorado driver’s license, and a standard uniform belt (“duty belt”) containing an authorized holster and firearm, ammunition case and ammunition, handcuffs and handcuff case, department issued tear gas and holder, flashlight, baton ring and belt “keepers.” (Id. § 111.03.) Uniformed officers are not required to wear basic hats or reflective apparel or carry batons, but officers must have those items available at all times. (Id. §§ 111.02(1), 111.02(12) & 111.03(13)). The Operations Manual describes particular situations in which basic hats and reflective apparel must be worn. The wearing of ballistic vests is encouraged, but not required. (Id. § 111.05(2)(e)).
