Do you ever wish you were dead? I do

That was until I was around 33 and bouts of depression began to hit me, for the first time. I can remember, clear as day (25 years ago) describing the feeling to my mom. I told her that I could actually feel it coming. It would wash over me in waves, I was unable to stop it, and it would take me down into a hole. I have experienced it many times throughout my life, and am grateful for the times when I feel ok. I have learned to postphone reacting to statements that seem erratic to me. The reason is because I understand that something as simple as the sound of rain pelting the ground at dusk, can trigger feelings of depression. In actuality, it is something much more painful that is causing the cycle to begin. I would hope to always be very careful in refraining from responding in a way that might hurt anyone, as I have experienced the frightening feeling, a couple of times, of wanting to drive my car into a cement wall.
