Everything in life is in a constant state of change. This is not real life but you can't seriously think it would be interesting to carefully select a group of people we like and freeze them into a static space on the internet. If you want to go, fine! Go and come back later if you want. I started this thread to tell you all that you disrupt the board when you announce why you are leaving unless it is purely for personal reason not related to what you think of the forum members. We care about you as people. I, for one, do not care what you think of ForumGarden as a group.
These dramatic goodbye threads have rarely served a good purpose in the past and have just become another tool for insulting the members. Because that's what they are: an insult.
We care about you but we don't want to hear about what you think ForumGarden used to be, is at present or will become.
I say "we" for matters of convenience. This is a thread for the members to agree or disagree. To offer suggestions on how to discourage departing members from making an ass of themselves.
Are you sick of hearing about how boring, immature, mean, unfriendly... fill in the blank... we are?
Without reading this entire thread, I'm throwing my 2 cents out. If I repeat anything already said, just consider it validated by me.
I'm not a regular here but when I do visit, there is always a "goodbye" thread sitting in "new posts". I glance through it and it just reeks of "attention seeking" in my opinion. Not only that, but someone who made a 'goodbye' thread just a few weeks before is active and posting again all over the place.
I mean really....if you were going to leave the friends you've met here, do they not have NO other means to contact you or vice versa? Do you really feel the need to let them know something you've probably already discussed in private via emails or IMs? I know the first thing I do when I start making a new friend at a forum is exchange emails or msn/yahoo ID's. I don't believe for a minute that FG is your only means of contact with your friends.
So, when you make a 'goodbye' thread, this is the kind of things I imagine are going through your mind:
*I've not gotten enough attention lately and want to see if anyone wants to drop a few nice lines and possibly beg me to stay.
*I want everyone to know that something has happened to upset me and instead of calling the person out on it, opted to make a 'goodbye' thread so everyone will hit me up in private about it and I can talk about the situation behind everyone's back.
*Your ego is crippled and in serious need of stroking.
If there is any other reason, PLEASE, enlighten me. And don't even say you don't come back (even as a guest) and read responses. You couldn't stand not knowing!
Better yet...how about those that want their account deleted? Those are drama queens to the infinite degree.
So Koans' right in everything she said. Give it a break. I'll add that if your gonna leave, don't leave us with the weak and lame impression that a 'goodbye" thread leaves. Just leave. It speaks more than the attention seeking thread.
