Hi each ! Hope everybody is well and having a good day today. It's sunny and warm here, but not as hot as Tuesday thank goodness !

Apart from Chris's emails, I have been inundated with emails for myself, for which I thank everybody who sent them, and I am ploughing through them all with great interest  :sneaky:;)

You'd think so Kaz, wouldn't you ? But no, he has retired from his position as chairman, but he has got himself involved with a school in Grantham which is renovating a full size working narrow boat. He is advising them about all sorts of things. This workboat belongs to the Grantham Canal Society and is on permanent loan to the school - they have managed to get grants to help pay for various equipment, paint, specialized workers etc. The older students will be helping with basic things and doing painting etc. A very interesting school project, which when complete will be launched on the Grantham Canal, for the schools use as a sort of floating museum etc. The Society will have use of the vessel at various times of the year for special functions. Yes it does have a very good working diesel engine so will be moving along the canal as well.

Also there are all sorts of queries coming in to Chris because of his terrific knowledge of that canal, and canals in general, and he also is available to do 'talks' about the Grantham Canal.

These things seem to come in bursts !! :-5

Well you did ask me Kaz ! :yh_rotfl

This is a full size narrow boat (72 ft long), but this one has been converted for domestic use, in that forward of those side doors the boat would have been totally open to cater for carrying coal, wood, etc, and have canvas covers over the whole lot of the cargo. The cabin in the stern ( the back) housed the engine, and there would be a 'butty' boat of similar length, with no engine which the 'motor' boat would tow - that would be a working pair. The 'butty' boat would be similarly designed to carry coal etc, and it's rear cabin would have been the only living quarters for the boatman and his family.

You always have interesting stories about your canals....I love them and all you pics of the UK. Thank you for posting them.

How's everyone today....great I hope.....It's very quiet at the beach but they are plenty of bennys around and about. Think they come out to party when I'm asleep:wah: Not nice out at all this 4th of July.....rain is heading in for the next week....

Hi Kaz,

It's a "not nice" term the beach people in Southern NJ use for all the northern NJ people who come to down to the shore for the summer.....

It an acronym that stands for some of the northern towns.......

Bayonne, Edison, Newark and New York.....

Even though I live at the beach now, I was once a benny:wah::wah:

Well Kaz....some shore people dislike the tourists because some of them are obnixous, loud, nasty and toss their garbage on your lawn. That's such a shame because I think that most of the tourists are nice and respectful....but as always, the bad outweigh the good. It's a bit difficult at times though...in my small town there can be 200,000 people here on any given summer night,,,,,you can't go out to eat or shop or even walk around at times. :-5 And then in October they're all gone and it's so peaceful.

Can't wait for tonight when the fireworks go off. My one dog Louie is afraid of just thunder and runs for his life. This will be the first 4th of July for him so I am now going to feed him, hold on tight, and if he tries to hide in my pants.....:wah: Well, I better go find a good secure belt!
