Mongolian Gazelles.

Post by RedGlitter »

Wow. Such cool animals. It made me ill to see that dumptruck pour their bodies into that pit. :( I'm glad the people are trying to help them! They could just as easily let them die out, so good on them for that.

Re: the foot and mouth disease, did they mean that nine out of ten gazelles out of this bunch carry it? I find it a little upsetting about them being at threat to livestock, but maybe that'll work out somehow. Interesting video and article, Scrat! Thanks for posting it! :)

I'm pretty sure those are Saiga antelope, they are extinct further west around the Caspian sea because of ranchers. They were killed off in the 60s.

You make a good point there, Scrat.

I wasn't even aware they were still around, Russia has reintroduced Canadian forest bison and American bison in the areas north of Mongolia, the Primorski region and I guess they are doing quite well there. The wolves too.

They have American Bison there? That's one of the many things I didn't know. I think I'll look up what animals are native to Russia and learn something tonight. Thanks again, Scrat- it's good to see you around. :)
