What makes a Great Sitcom?!

Post by john8pies »

A recent study has stated it believes that what makes a truly GREAT sitcom is one that features an `ordinary ` character doing an `ordinary ` job but he / she is flawed with illusions of grandeur which make the laughs!

Perfect examples of this would appear to be The Office (David Brent ordinary office manager with illusions of grandeur), Fawlty Towers (Basil Fawlty ordinary hotelier with illusions of grandeur), Steptoe and Son (rag and bone merchants ; the son having illusions of grandeur); Dad`s ARmy (Arthur Lowe playing the Home Guard sergeant with illusions of grandeur) and even Sgt Bilko (Phil Silvers playing the ARmy sergeant - not quite sure if it`s illusions of grandeur, but he certainly was disappointed when he found out his ex-buddies had all succeeded in business!)

Nobody yet however has found out what is the slightest bit funny about Last of the Summer Wine :wah: (I put in that last sentence myself!) :wah:
