Dexter
Nomads Rating :
Dexter Morgan is a killer, a serial killer. A good man doing bad things for the right reasons but in the wrong way. Dexter works for the Miami police dept as a blood spatter forensics expert. He was born to kill and honed his craft on cats and dogs as a child. His father dead now after discovering his sons passion taught Dex to be clever and deceptive.
In between solving the cities crimes he enjoys dissecting the bad guys depositing their dismembered body parts in plastic bags and disposing of them. Hes very good at what he does. This Showtime series is witty and clever and Im highly recommending it to all.

Hubby's a fan of the show. But I've never gotten into to it.

I'm struggling to get over how bad the advertisements are.
I see the ad every time I cue up a movie on demand through cable and... wow. I can't recall such a bland expression on an actors face since David Duchoveny. When he slashes at the empty air in front of him he looks like he's falling asleep. At least they didn't make the faux pas of showing all the good parts in the preview.

oh, and I caught the opening sequence tonight too. Watching that man eat is about as much horror as I could take for the night. bloody gruesome.

Do you mean Nomad's summary was serious, he wasn't just making an absurd parody of how impossibly witless TV drama has become? In what way does a plot like that differ from mindless drivel - the plot, mind, I don't want to hear "oh but the writing's elegant".

Next to Deadwood it is pablum.
My first thought was of how happy all the vigilante types would be at a show with such a concept. Not something that should be taken lightly. I hope they point out that he is a psychopath and try not to make Dexter charming at all.

I would advance the following notion: it's necessary for the good mental health of the viewing public that no reference to, much less depiction of, killing should happen in any radio, TV or console fiction. Possession, viewing or broadcast of any such material should be a criminal act.

Dexter is eerily charming with a twist of darkness. Hes a psychopath of course but he has his reasons. Hes merely channeling his passion for killing by offing derelicts. The characters quirkiness is the attraction and his penchant for slicing and dicing is a by product.
Whom amongst us doesnt have annoying habits ?

I ordered the complete first season from Netflix and finished the last episode last week. Good show. It's as off the wall as "Six Feet Under", which I enjoyed as well.

Sounds like just another version of Angel, the vampire with a conscience. Angel was more watchable though. I seriously couldn't get past the opening credits. I kept sitting down to listen to the dialogue but couldn't find a single good reason to keep watching.
Then again, I turned off the Texas Chainsaw Massacre because it just plain wasn't going to add anything to my life by watching it. I've suddenly lost my understanding of why people choose to watch gore. In this case, empathising with someone who would shove... what was that? an icepick? into another man's mouth and has apparently killed his own brother for whatever reason... just doesn't sound like a good hero to me. He ought not to be encouraged, fictional or not.

Great show Nomie if you want to see him in another even better show "SIX FEET UNDER" is worth renting the entire series. He played a gay undertaker in this show and was excellent.
ALOHA!!
MOTTO TO LIVE BY:
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.
WOO HOO!!, what a ride!!!"

The next 6 episodes came in the mail today.
Ill keep you updated on the shows progress and pass on any clever "techniques" the deranged killer offers up.

I missed the last series of 6ft. under, will have to rent it.
Anyone think that Harry could actually have been Dexter's biological father, and who's going to be the first to go Doakes or Gayle... I'm betting on Gayle...
I have to say that HBO really comes up with some weird and whacky music and intros.
