Flying with your Dog?!!

We are scared that if we leave her in a kennel she will pass away and we will have no dog to come home to. Tim and I can not a refuse to out her in a kennel. What makes it bad is our cat was the same way.. Cats are supposed to survive on their own.. Not our cat she was just like Saydee. We were told they sat by the door the whole time and when Saydee went outside she sat at the end of the sidewalk looking for us. She whined the whole time. So I am just wanting to hear you expierences. I am confused... oh my Eyes:-1

pets go on vacation all the time, they need a break too. i cannot read the blue -- so i may have missed much susie. i would rather see you bring your dog than your snakes. QUESTION; are the snakes safe? :wah:

The airplane ride may be harder on her than staying home. Plus,

depending on when you go, airlines might have temperature restrictions

already in place due to heat.

Question for you: Did you leave her at home to be taken care of or take

her to Gram and Papa's house? I would try seeing if she could stay at

home with her own things, and just have someone come over to the house.

Also, both of you wear t-shirts a couple days and don't launder them, and

leave them with her to sleep on or whatever. New toys, something she

really likes but doesn't get often might help. Do you happen to know any

people who are experienced at taking care of dogs that could come over

BEFORE you leave on your trip? Take Tiff for a walk for a few days?

Not eating isn't that big of a deal, really, for a short time. Try tempting

treats that she doesn't get when you're home. Boiled boneless skinless

chicken breast is good and shouldn't cause tummy upset.

Failing all that, ask your vet. He/she might be able to provide you with

some anti-anxiety or calming things for your dog to take. That would

be a last resort for me.

I would never take a dog on a plane, personally, but on a ferry is okay

Hi we always leave our dog and cats in our home when we go on holiday we tried leaving the dog at a friends house he was ok but i think they are always better if they can be in their own home. Our dog is a one man dog even follows hubby to the toilet when he`s left at home he tend`s to be very sad it`s like he`s on auto pilot he just sleep`s on the bed all day, the cats hate being on their own. We have left them over night when we have been camping and just got my mother to come in and sit with them for an hour or so .Flying we have`nt tryed (i need a pet passport first)i just don`t like the idea of putting dogs in kennals good luck i`m sure it will be fine it`s the only part of going on holiday i hate leaving the animals at home but for us its definitely worth the expence.sarah janexx

My sister has a poodle and he always flies up with her in a kennel bag that they only ask her to stow under seat during landing and takeoff...otherwise he is out of the bag for the rest of the flight. This really surprised me because I would think someone would be offended by this in this day and age, but it has always been the passengers that want him to come out. This arrangement works well as long as he has a sedative except the one time she gave it to him too late and he had severe diarhea all the way to L.A....my sister still can't talk about it!!!

Maybe a bassett hound is too large to fly up above? Not sure--but check it out. Personally I would never fly a dog down below...there is too much that can go wrong with the dog not in your possession...you have no idea who is interacting with that dog when you release him to airport people....I would leave my dog home before putting him down below. Also if you take him on your trip, make sure he has temporary tags so you can be contacted if he gets lost in the town you are visiting. Many pets are lost on vacations due to the break in routine and being in a strange place...make sure to include a cell # where you can be contacted.

hehehe I would take kitty before I took doggie on a plane. My pooch barks, pants and sheds badly when upset. I think he would be a miserable travel companion. Kitty however loves to travel, I get a kick out of the reactions I get while stopped at red lights and my cat is looking out the passenger side window at folks.

I have to wonder susie if your pooch is just easily traumatized and anything out of the norm . I feel sorry for your pooch
