A mother and son were brutally attacked and raped in Florida by a group of teenagers. That's horrible, but I found this comment by a neighbor despicable.
So a lady was raped. Big deal," resident Paticiea Matlock said with disgust. "There's too much other crime happening here."
Are folks really in high crime areas really becoming that desensitized to the violence?

Oh, that was HORRIBLE...I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes, could not imagine...so sad:-1 :-1

No, that isn't the reason that woman said that. She is just is a stupid, insensitive bitch.
Life ain't linear.

God, how awful. I wonder how she'd have felt if SHE would have been the one to suffer the nightmare that woman and her very young son had to suffer. Some people just have no sense at all.

How about this sh*t as well:
Since the June 18 attack, police have increased patrols in the area, blocked off one entrance and will soon install surveillance cameras.
"It took this to make that happen?" Matlock, a 32-year-old single mother of three, snarled.
Piece of garbage. Oughtta be strung up for saying that.
Forced to give oral to her own son? That is beyond. Just beyond.
And probably nothing will be done about this. After all, they have other crimes to chase down.

God will you people begin opening your eyes and see what the world is really like it's much much worse.
Come on Magenta. Enough already with the "you people" stuff. Whatever else is happening in the world doesn't automatically have to be compared to whatever we're talking about at hand. That only negates the impact of what we *are* talking about. Besides, if you *are* going to compare, this crap didn't hapen under duress of war factors, it happened in a more or less civilized city. Impoverished and oppressed maybe, but cilvilized nonetheless.

Magenta, the shock is what *makes* people do something about it. If you get jaded it becomes routine. You accept it: "yeah the world sucks, whadd're ya gonna do?"
Okay, point taken about it not being related to war.
However, whether it happens there, on your turf, or anyone else's turf, it's bad. Sometimes bad is bad. (To quote the song.) Sure it happens all the time and even worse stuff, but I for one am not going to become used to it just because it does.
I think that's the whole crux of that woman's remark. She needs a dire attitude adjustment.

Anyone who has knowledge of an area in that state of dis-repair is responsible for this rape! Because this situation was nurtured right up until this incident .
Too late to say you're shocked now.
The woman that made that statement has the attitude of someone who lives in desperate poverty or a War zone where it is every man for themselves. there's nothing wrong with her attitude whilst she's made to live within this area, she needs that attitude . You should not be shocked by what she said
you should be more shocked at why she says what she says .
Or will every one close their eyes until again something on the news or in a newspaper shocks you!
Everyone will sit back and think "gee how did the world get this bad????" and deep down you'll know the answer. the information in that article! that's how.
I'd sure like to know when you became an expert on world issues and shellshock psychology.
Yes, the rape and oral on her own son shocks me. And it ought to shock you as well. IF not, I would suggest there is something very wrong.
The other stuff, yadayada. Not to be rude about it but that's about all I can give it right now because I'm getting weary of yet more drivel about America and I see now that's exactly where this is leading yet again.
I understand your Aborigines are treated pretty rough over there. A little bit of racism. What are you guys doing about that? Or are you all too busy policing everybody else's back yard?

No Magenta, you're wrong.
You pointed out that "the most prosperous country in the world" has a 60% below poverty level. Any time you get a chance, you pop off on the States. You really need to cease with that schlock.

Here's some stuff about Australia I think could use some addressing....
You have the highest level of poverty in the developed world and the second highest percentage of people living below half the average income.
You have more than two million Aussies living below poverty level.
Yet you're considered "The Lucky Country." Why is that?
When it comes to rich countries, few spend less than Oz on social security. Your payments are low and fewer people receive them in Oz than in most other developed nations. Why is this?
Your country seems to treat its Aboriginal people the same way the United States treats its Indians/Native Americans. You have the same drinking problem (no doubt induced by impoverishment and oppression) with your Aboriginal people as we do our Indians. Why is this?
Your Aboriginal people have a problem with violence in their community yet violence is used on them when they're in the slammer. Why is this?
Sexual abuse is another problem with the Aboriginals. Girls as young as 12 years old are becoming mothers. What's Australia doing about this issue?

Is this really the right thread to make such an awesomely misinformed attack? You seem to have copy/pasted utterly inaccurate material without even considering whether it might be true or not, just to hit out.
Let's have a "Why does Australia have problems" thread by all means., but let's not chase down plain uninformed lies in a thread where they're only posted to annoy in the first place.

I am all for a special Australian thread, and I don't know that that info is inaccurate or rmisinformed since it came from Australia's bigwigs themselves.
Nor is it an attack at all. I do feel if someone is going to throw out statistics about a country, it's only right they be willing to address that of their own.

The highest level of poverty in the developed world? You just throw it in without even trying to check? It's so utterly false and it most certainly didn't come "from Australia's bigwigs themselves".
I'll start the Australia thread. Meanwhile this one might like to stay on topic.

You just drop the word "fourth" and think it makes no difference?
Your thread's ready. If you put this link in as your opening position I'm sure things will move on from there.

We don't know though everything bout the story, but I wonder how many are living in poverty because it's easier to collect a welfare check rather than get a job.
Third stepping block a person doesn't know the difference between fireworks and gunshots? this does not shock you ? what was done?
I don't think the fireworks they confused for gun shots, were the pretty sparkly ones that go up in the sky. They were probably black cats or something similar. And those are easy to confuse with gunshots.

The brutality of the attack shocked me yes. I know horrid crimes occur, but it shocked me.

IMO, I hope what this lady was trying to say was, with all the crime running rampant there, it took a most gruesome crime for someone to finally pay attention to them and send for help from law enforcement and the city.
Cell phones, two hundred dollars and jewelry. . . .
Cell phones have become the bane of this existence. Land lines are cheaper and literally have unlimited calling in your area. When did we become so very important that we can't leave the house without getting a call? How does someone under the poverty level afford them?
