This is why I always say I love YOU..

Post by Mookey1229 »

I found this poem while looking for something to send to my son who no longer wants to be apart of our life. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. I think it says it all.

If I knew

If I knew it would be the last time

That I'd see you fall asleep,

I would tuck you in more tightly

and pray the Lord, your soul to keep

If I knew it would be the last time

that I see you walk out the door,

I would give you a hug and kiss

and call you back for one more

If I knew it would be the last time

I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,

I would video tape each action and word,

so I could play them back day after day

If I knew it would be the last time,

I could spare an extra minute

to stop and say "I love you,"

instead of assuming you would KNOW I do

If I knew it would be the last time,

I would be there to share your day,

Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,

so I can let just this one slip away

For surely there's always tomorrow

to make up for an oversight,

and we always get a second chance

to make everything right

There will always be another day

to say "I love you,"

And certainly there's another chance

to say our "Anyhting I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong

and today is all I get,

I'd like to say how much I love you

and I hope you never forget

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,

young or old alike,

And today may be the last chance

you get to hold your loved one tight

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,

why not do it today?

For if tomorrow never comes,

you'll surely regret the day

That you didn't take that extra time

for a smile, a hug, or a kiss

and you were too busy to grant someone,

what turned out to be thier one last wish

So hold your loved ones close today,

and whisper in their ear,

Tell them how much you love them

and that you'll always hold them dear

Take the time to say "I'm sorry."

"Please forgive me," Thankyou," or "It's okay."

And if tomorrow never comes,

you'll have no regrets about today

What a beautiful poem. Thank you for sharing.

Many years ago, when I was in tech school in the Air Force, one of the men in my class got out of the AF for family reasons when his father died. Mom and Dad had been high school sweethearts and they always said "I love you" when they left the house. One day, dad was on the phone when mom left for the store so she just waved at him on her way out the door. She came home 20 minutes later to find the paramedics in her driveway and her husband gone. He had a massive coronary while talking on the phone while she was gone and the person on the other end had called emergency crews. She was very distraught to think that the one time in her memory that she had not said the words was the one time they counted the most.

I try very hard to remember this in dealing with my family.

Be patient with your son. I am sure that in his heart, he loves you. Sometimes children need to grow up seperate to come back "home" to the family.

I hope so too Lilac. I miss him so dearly. My family is my life and I never thought in a million years this would happen to me. All over some rumors, lies and misunderstandings. Its very very sad. Especially when he has to baby boys I can't see. I had hoped the poem would have opened his eyes a bit, but I guess not. Thanks for responding and sharing your story. It just goes to show you how things can happen unexpectedly.

so sorry about your son, and hope it is rectified soon. it's his loss. :yh_flower :yh_hugs ....everyone who has ever lost someone has felt this way, just want a minute to speak to that person again. with my kids and my man, i never fail to say 'i love you' because of my heart attack last year. we just don't know. i hope your son sees the wrong he is doing to himself and to his children as well as to you. xox

He ain't dead. Unless you taught him stubbornness a little too well, it ain't necessarily over.

My parents divorced when I was 9 or 10 & he left. I saw him when my mom died just before my 13th birthday, and spent a month with him that summer. I spent my teen years in foster care and never once received a call or letter from him. After I graduated high school I found him again and he was very happy to see me. I dropped by a few times when I was in the area, usually between Air Force assignments, and he was always happy to see me. But he never once tried to contact me.

When I retired from the Air Force, I sent invitations to everyone, mostly for souvenirs because nobody in my family could afford to travel except my Army brother, who promised to be there. To my surprise, I got my very first phone call from my father, saying he was thinking about coming. It seemed like a long time, but instantly all the opportunities he passed on rushed through my head. I didn't know this man and he never tried to know me. My brother was still hostile to him about the circumstances around the divorce 30 years before, and it was more important to me that he (brother) share my retirement. I apologized and told him it was more of a souvenir and we didn't have a seat for him.

My point: quietly stalk your son. Send him holiday cards and pictures. Find out his accomplishments and send him congratulations. Don't call because that requires a response. Write as if you know he will answer but don't expect it. He may come around, but if he turns and doesn't find an open door, you may never know about it.

It's not over.

It reminds me of a poignant poem I once read:

The clock of life is wound but once,

And no man has the power,

To tell just where the hands will stop,

At late, or early hour.

To lose one's wealth is sad indeed,

To lose one's health is more,

To lose one's life is such a loss,

As no man can restore.

The present only, is our own,

Live, love, toil with a will,

Put no faith in tomorrow,

For the hands may then be still.
In HIM I place my trust.
