Puppy Training!
My brother has a dog - who when she was a puppy was born with a bladder problem..She ended up having an infection like every month - and so she dribbled all the time..even now when she gets excited she pees......You sound like you are doing everything girl...Good Luck..IF it keeps up I would have her looked at - it maybe as simple as antibiotics..

Yep vet trip first I think, then if that checks out ok, perhaps no water for the pup before bed. Yes potty training puppy is fun. We just kept putting ours out every hour and when he did his duty he got loads of praise and a treat, then we had to stop once trained cause the little begger would run out pee and run to the door expecting treats hehehehehe was cute but we jsut could not do treats all the time. He is well trained now, and if I am away for extended periods of time he holds it well. The other thing Susie, lock puppy up at nite in a kennel. The whimpering only lasts for like 3 nites. But traditionally most dogs will not have accidents in their beds.

Hey Susie...I doubt that there's much more frustrating than a puppy that won't take to house breaking. Are you going to crate train her? That's always the method I reccommend for new pups, and if you don't know the technique let me know, I'll walk you through it.

The puppy isn't being stubborn. She's just a baby! That's what happens.
Their little systems aren't developed enough to do any better. You're lucky
you get 6 hours a night without her needing to go. As she gets older, if
you keep up with the training, it will get better.
Minks had a good suggestion, you can take her water up at night. But
even if she has just gone, you still can't trust her not to go again, especially
on a warm soft bed! She can't be allowed to roam around anywhere until
she's trustworthy.
You might try baby gates, do you have a place like kitchen or bathroom
floor without carpet? You could block her off in there or put her in her
crate when you can't be right there to watch her.
And get her some toys. It might help some with the howling if she can have
something to work on. Ever heard of a toy called a Kong? They are good
for puppies, you can fill them with peanut butter and they work a long
time getting it out.

Well, Val and I can offer you tips and suggestions, but if your pup is spoiled and you're ok with that, there's not a lot that can be done. You have to get tough, or sacrifice your carpet.
Let me as you a couple things:
What kind of puppy is this?
What is her feeding schedule?
What type of food is she on?
Does she have access to water all the time?
Does she go for walks?

Yes to water because of our other animals.
Constantly. She loves walking!
A redbone!! What made you guys decide to get one?
Hounds are notorius for being difficult. They have one thing one their minds: Hunting. Loyal, usually decent pets, but they need to satisfy that instinct to hunt. It's what they were bred for. Let me guess: You take her out and she immediately drops her nose to the ground, snuffling around instead of doing her business, right?

To get her to stop jumping on family members (and others who are in the home FREQUENTLY), when she starts to jump - take a step back and turn away. Like everything else, you must do this everytime she starts to jump.
For company coming into the home, keep a leash by the door and before you open the door, put the leash on the pup and make her sit. This one is harder, because you need to keep her in that sit until the company is in the door. Then keep her on the leash until she relaxes about someone "new" being in the home.

I need help! I have an 8 week old cocker spaniel, and I don't have a clue how to train dogs, lets just say the house doesn't smell very good. Any tips, anything?

I'm very sorry I just now saw this post. Please feel free to pm me in the
future if you need any help.
There are a couple of good books to buy, one is called The Art of Raising
a Puppy and it is by The Monks of New Skete.
Are you crate training? This is the best way to housebreak your pup.
There is a product called "Nature's Miracle" that really helps get out
odors from accidents, you want to make sure to do that otherwise the
pup will return to that spot over and over.
Vigilance is key to housebreaking, and remember your tiny pup's
system can't hold anything for very long, I think the rule is 1 hour
per month of age. So, your pup should be taken out every couple
hours. After naps, after eating, after play, etc. I think you get the
idea! And do not expect your pup to just go out alone, pick the pup
up, carry it out to the spot you want it to go, put it down and tons
of praise for going.
Oh, and don't use any products containing ammonia to clean up
after your pup. Since there is ammonia in their urine, that will
make them think it's a spot for them to "go" also!
Buy lots of chew toys. Play with them a lot, a tired puppy is a good
puppy!
Good luck, let me know if you have any other questions, and post pics!
