You do seem rather negative this last few months. What aspect of that photo distresses you? Why do you choose to focus on attempting to upset your audience with write-only baiting links rather than explore with them?

I'm unfamiliar with the word "Chaz" other than as a contraction of Charles, an obsolete Anglo-Saxon forename long past its use-by date. European dynasties were called Charles. We have one remnant still sat in a palace dolefully waiting his own turn on the ceremonial throne. We only had two before him of that name, the first an absolutist intransigent whom we executed in front of baying crowds of Londoners, the second being his son the fornicator. It has never been an auspicious name.

The scoundrel fronting the video appears to be this chap:
Johnson, 32, has since then seemingly traded remorse for a career of trolling the mainstream reporters and outlets who spurned him by lurching further and further rightward, incessantly “owning the libs” with posts engineered to go viral among the MAGA audience or playing court-jester at a Turning Point USA conference in which Johnson donned an American flag suit and fired a t-shirt cannon while rambling about “meme wars.”

https://www.thedailybeast.com/serial-pl ... -point-usa
If anything's unclean in the clip you posted it's him, not the citizens with no social safety net that he's laughing at. Why do some belligerent politicized sections of American society feel no shame that so many of their fellow citizens are left to rot instead of supported by the community? What on earth do you think triggers subsistence crime in the first place, if not social deprivation? And the answer to the problem is Benny the Mocker? Is that the best America can come up with as a response?

Clearly you're correct. All it needs to enlighten me is for you to explain it. You don't often explain things.

What it seems to me is that you look at the clip and perceive scumbag wastrel criminals. If they were in fact criminals they'd have enough money to pay rent and buy food and clothing, what I see are people who have rejected criminality as a life choice despite living in a depression where a quarter of working-age Americans have already claimed very inadequate unemployment benefit just in the first half of this year after being laid off. You see insurrection where I see a disgusting and shameful lack of empathy on the part of Bernie and his crew. What puzzles me is that a vicious firestarter like Bernie probably thinks The Grapes of Wrath is a great American novel but won't admit any parallel.

https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2 ... ry-few-do/ discusses unemployment benefit in America, and its figures are from two months ago back in April. One in four now is a reasonable guess on my part, if you want to say it's inaccurate I'll dig up a reference - or maybe you can show an alternative figure yourself. If you want to know where tent cities come from, ask yourself how people with no savings keep paying rent when employment dives like that. Tent cities are a consequence of bad social governance and high unemployment and they're a recurrent feature of American society, the one in the clip is not the first.

Sorry, I brought the subject up.

A major city of the United States abandons its citizens and surrenders to hoodlums. Its mayor describes the lawlessness as a summer of love.

That whole concept and continuous riots baffling. Riots itself are easy, not so many excuses and acceptance is the mystery.

spot, the Grapes of Wrath, really? It is one of Steinbeck's best works and I do not see any parallel to poor Okie migrant workers and gun-toting gangsters.

All you need do to dehumanize a group of people is to agree among yourselves that they're cockroaches. That's why you have loaded words like gangsters and rapists and illegals and outcast unwanted Okies and centuries of Christ-killing well-poisoning baby-stealing Jews. How do you think pogroms happen?

You ignored my blatantly true observation that if they were gangsters they'd have homes because they'd have money. They clearly have neither money nor homes, they live in squalid insanitary tents. The gangsters took over the White House, remember? Drill it into your head, gangsters are rich folk with penthouse suites and money to burn. You're labelling the bankrupt unemployed with a logically impossible accusation, and you're doing it so you can feel good about despising them and wishing them all dead. Benny knows how to press those buttons among his angry white target audience, he'd be handing out machetes next if they weren't gun owners already.

One can see why Mr Stilton Jarlsberg disguises his identity. It's hard to distinguish his talentless collage graffiti from the inane embarrassments of an obtuse smutty schoolboy.

Who is the granite gentleman intended to represent? I'm sure others recognize him and no doubt it makes the joke clearer.

As for the juvenile observation, it was precisely that - the rant of a Harvard sophomore, whatever a sophomore actually is. I take it to mean inexperienced.
To arms! To arms! : Men of Massachusetts! Your country is in danger! [...] Fill up the regiments then, and let not Massachusetts be behindhand in sending her quota of troops. The country must be aroused to the sense of its dangers. The regiments are not filling up fast and if this goes on the barbarous system of drafting must be resorted to. The country wants soldiers and I think that every gentleman and gentleman's son ought to go into the field. Such a proceeding would exercise a good influence on everybody. Nobody here seems to be awake.
That and similar ravings killed a half million people and could clearly have been written by Confederate or Unionist alike if you change the name of the State, it's merely a generic call to arms. Gott Mitt Uns. Had the little prig been taken out to the main square and summarily shot by his own side for promoting war the nation might have regained its sanity but no, he's been turned into a patriot.

And is the cartoonist trying to mistakenly imply General Robert E Lee was gay? What is the message, that's what I can never understand. What am I meant to take home from the quip, if quip it is? Where's the statue?

eta: I went and looked. The granite representation is called "The Stone of Hope" and intends to represent Dr King. I do not think there can ever have been a more inept representation of any person in stone, it quite seriously looks nothing at all like the man's photographs. Why on earth was that allowed to happen. What sort of process can end up with a bizarre death-zombie artistic catastrophe like that committee cockup. What sort of mockery is conveyed by selecting the whitest granite in all creation to depict Dr King of all people, if nothing else. It's the sort of planning that resulted in the Bristol Brabazon. Knowing all that still doesn't make the graffiti any more meaningful or amusing though.

I shall be kind and assume this is a comment on the worldwide trauma created by the Pentagon and its associated intelligence agencies.

Because you can't possibly be talking about Jim Crow, surely.

Because if you were, that would be a foully disgusting and unfunny cartoon, wouldn't it.

I didn't think there were any Americans still using metaphors like "blackbirds" to deride the descendants of their slaves but clearly Tom Stiglich hasn't found that out yet.

Cancel Culture is an ideal subtitle though. The absence of culture screams from the image.

Go on, look at the cartoon. Look at the Black Lives Matter protests moving from city to city.

What in the cartoon is black?

The words imply they're going from place to place killing people.

The history of black crows being a cartoon euphemism for America's black population is extensive and goes back well before the civil war. It reached its height under Hanna-Barbera at a guess. It's clearly still alive and it invariably offers a negative view.

Are you just plain blind to the implications of the sickening cartoons you post, or are you simply malicious.

It is more than BLM burning city after city. Just the same it is not all about CHAD/CHAZ but the cowardness of elected officials of all colors to protect the citizens who put them in office.

CHAZ death.

(CNN)Seattle police say a "violent crowd" prevented them reaching two shooting victims -- one whom later died -- inside the city's autonomous protest zone Saturday.

Where is the outrage calls for more burning and looting?

Grackles, crows, birds of a feather.

The current violence and hate are like the grackles I've observed move from place to place. Seems BLM and fellow travelers are never far behind.

I hate to pick on Chicago as the civilized citizens are open about their problems.

The holidays are always entertaining. Plenty of death and other violence.

A lot of that didn't make a lot of sense." ****em let it burn"....? Will those officers be disciplined for misusing the police airwaves? and who's the bloke who keeps saying "stand down" . There is definitely a power struggle going on in most of that recording.

I suspect addictive drug use would go down if possession and supply was legal, and the stuff used would be a damn sight less lethal if there were consumer law purity standards.

Criminals don't just happen, they're created by laws. If an act's legal then the person doing it isn't a criminal and the police should have no interest in that activity.

Criminality isn't badness, criminality is a rejection of authority. Stop being authoritarian and there would be less criminality.

The underlying thing that's at fault is the law and the way it's policed.

Actually there is nothing in the Constitution that specifically gives one the right to own a gun.
Nor is it a "Natural Right" or a "Civil right" to own guns. It is an implied right, based on the 2nd amendments clause, which only restricted the Federal government's control over citizens' keeping weapons.

According to the Supreme Court, there is.

District of Columbia v. Heller

Nor is it a "Natural Right" or a "Civil right" to own guns. It is an implied right, based on the 2nd amendments clause, which only restricted the Federal government's control over citizens' keeping weapons.
I believe it is arguable that to possess self-protection in nothing less than a NATURAL right which should be law.

Just so. An exact instance of the use of the word "Chaz" as a contraction of Charles. The aromatic fougère even emphasizes the dated aspect of the name, I've known changing rooms which could also have been described as "cinnamon, amber and patchouli". It takes a combination of floorboards and layered sweat to achieve that.

Really? I'm trying to think what else you could think the product is named after. It's a contraction of Charles, that's it. That's how the language is constructed.

I had a history teacher nicknamed Chaz who'd been called that decades before Revlon brought out their scent, he was born Charles and wore a goatee.

But I've found you a fairly convincing review of the contents too. If I can find a box I'll definitely buy it, 1975 is my sort of smell.
I originally reviewed the Jean Phillipe version of Chaz, and liked it so much that I sought out the original blend that was sold by Revlon in the 70s. I managed to get hold of the original juice and it is a MONSTER! I’ve never smelled any fragrance so overpowering. It’s like the current version on steroids after going 16 winning rounds with Rocky in a leather jockstrap. Although the original adverts had Tom Selleck I don’t even think that he was butch or hairy enough to endorse this beast. It has a slight wiff of the current version but dries down to a very heavy/sweaty/boozy/soapy scent that will stop men, women, children and animals in their tracks. A nuclear bombshell of a fragrance that not only announces its presence by smacking you in the sinuses but also punches you in the stomach and stomps on your balls as well.

After wearing this for a full day I had to go home and have a Scotch and a cold shower. I think it will be a few more months before I’m ready for round 2.

Though I have tended not to employ the more thuggish of the 70s aromas any longer, I rely more on a confident charm and personality which was perhaps less evident in those days. My bathroom cabinet has a large bottle of 4711 for everyday use, and either Old Spice or Brut for special evenings.

We are English. Or possibly Welsh, it's hard to tell.

Among other things that means we keep official government statistics, unlike you Americans. Among the Office of National Statistics is a page showing the frequency with which forenames are registered in England and Wales. The latest figures are for 2018.

We have 758 "Charles" and 3,365 "Charlie" which says a lot about the degraded state of the country.

Chaz, Chastity and Bono all return a resounding zero.

I couldn't make this up.

Seattle BLM protesters demand white people ‘give up’ their homes

Seattle BLM protesters march through residential neighborhoods and demand white people give up their homes.

“Give up your house. Give Black people back their homes.” “what are you going to do about it? Open up your wallets.”

It's a scrubby red-top called the New York Post, unless I have lost my bearings. The language of the report is quite instructive.
Footage of the Wednesday demonstration posted to Twitter shows a crowd of dozens chanting “Black lives matter” before an unidentified man projects his ire toward nearby white residents — saying they are living in a historically black section of the city as another woman in the crowd yells that they should “give up” their homes, the clip shows.

“Do you know that before your white ass came here, this was all black people?” the man says. “Do you know people like you came in here and basically bought all the land from the black people for less than what it was worth, kicked them out so you could live here? Do you know that?”

The man continues: “’Cause if you don’t, now you f–king do — now do something about it!”

Another woman in the crowd then urges the residents to “open their wallet” as the man continues to yell at the unidentified residents off-camera.

“So how do you plan to fix it?” the man continues. “As a gentrifier, because you are part of that problem.”

A woman with a megaphone then urges the residents to “give up” their house, the footage shows.

It reports a "crowd" demonstrating. It then makes clear that the crowd actually consists of "dozens" of people. This is not quite what I expect the word "crowd" to mean, but there you go.

Contrary to the initial impression, it's not about the Pilgrim Fathers and their Puritan descendants eliminating the First Nations with infected blankets, sword and gunpowder. It's about the eighties and the nineties, it's about gentrification, it's about the same topic as a book I red last month by Paul Beatty called The Sellout which is high on my list of best novel of the century.

Back in the mid-seventies I did exactly what that crowd, and Paul Beatty, criticized. I gentrified Islington in London. It was a suburb when it was built between 1820-1850, forty minutes' walk from the City and the West End. Before then it had been a built up mile where a couple of roads met headed north, but the Victorians filled in the gaps and urbanized the fields. By 1900 it was two-thirds let as rooms and very seedy, and it stayed that way until me and my sort turned up and gentrified the area. We practically invented the concept. Property values went up a factor of ten in as many years and the locals were driven out. The process spread across working-class parts of London like fire on dry grassland. In Seattle, unlike London, districts had historically been racially segregated and the land-grabbers gentrified the resident black population out of the newly-valuable locations.

So, revisit those quotes. "Do you know people like you came in here and basically bought all the land from the black people for less than what it was worth, kicked them out so you could live here? Do you know that?".

Damn right they did. But do reed that Paul Beatty novel, it's stunning.

As a footnote, here's the state of ethnic apartheid in middle-class mid-nineties America from a quote I saw recently... https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=Iu9 ... 22&f=false

Yup. What I figured.
Same as it ever was.
Property values go up, Taxes go up, Rent goes up. merchants can't keep up. then people lose jobs, rent doesn't get paid, people move out, rent goes down, property values go down, developers buy it up, run off the renters, tear it down, build new stuff, sell to the gents, The old neighborhood just ain't the same, anymore.
Same story since the first city grew up.
