Medical Marijuana - Tax Deduction ?
Tax Time.. Woohoo
I'm asking - here in AZ you have to qualify for a medical marijuana card.
In the state of Washington - marijuana stores are on every corner - take your I.D. and purchase as if your at any other convenience store.
Medical costs are a deductible so I'm asking is or should medical marijuana be a deductible?
What do you say?
Patsy

Well, I think it should be.
However, the stuff is still against Federal law. That will complicate the Federal income tax a bit.

well as you may or may not know, it is legal both medical and recreational here.
It is a real twisted thing here.
I have health benefits that cover some of the costs of my prescribed meds. However they will not cover my prescribed medical Cannabis and I am taxed on top of that. And NO prescribed medicines in this country are taxed.
It is a real burr under my saddle as I used medical Cannabis daily, both for sleep and arthritis and I am treated like just another stoner with a bad habit.
Medical should be tax deductible, or at the very least tax free.
The whole mess just shows how greedy our liberal government is … legalize it, for rec use and tax them, but as a medical alternative they do nothing to help us out.... but then again our PM and his idiocy is another story for another day.

I'd trade our Pres for your PM, for a while.

Medical Marijuana - Tax Deduction ?
My tax accountant relative says, no. Medical pot is not deductible on Federal taxes, because it is against federal law.
And to-date most states follow the federal guidelines on medical expenses.

Lars - your Tax relative is correct.
How Marijuana is obtained from state to state is a ball of marbles.
AZ has several requirements - Dr. eval etc..Once approved it has cost one $350.00.
Then your issued a card to purchase.
In the state of WA - no requirements - no Dr. eval - No cost to any individual - just walk in & buy what you want.
So where is my $350.00 going?? LOL right down the toilet..LOL
OH GOD The Government B.S. wow
they're always biting...
Patsy LOL

Lars and Anne, you would be in for a whole lot of embarrassment on the global front!!
And then there is all the lies and cover ups that are unravelling.
He is the biggest hypocrite and liar I have ever seen.
Back to the topic of Pot now lol.
Of course if the stuff is illegal there are different tax issues, but as a legal substance and a prescribed substance for some people it's disgusting we are being taxed on it that is all I can say.
Oh Canada what a sham these days.

What do you mean by, "would be"?
But, enough about the fools in office and the fools that put them there. I'd much rather talk about Pot.

Here, we pay a decent price for the stuff, and nobody cares what we do with it.
Well, except they don't like folks smoking it in public.
And far too many people seem to think that they can drive vehicles just fine after indulging in the stuff.
What's fun is that having Colorado plates on a vehicle can get you a stop and a visit with the K-9 Corps in neighboring states when you're just passing through.
A minor annoyance at times. Their definition of "Reasonable Suspicion" seems quite flexible.

Bloody well right! I'm next door in New Mexico. My wife has a medical card and yet I still have to shell out $100 for her prescription a month while my meds ($500 a shot!) are free?
This is what passes for health care in the U.S.
