1. "You Only Get What You Give" by The New Radicals (So good, I'm having it played at my funeral!)
2. "Destiny Rules" by Fleetwood Mac (My personal favorite, but "Sara" is a close runner up.)
3. "Learning to Fly" by Pink Floyd (So good, it convinced me to quit my job, change cities and states, and start a new career.)

Massively difficult and it's taken me a couple of days to even get close :-
Lady in Black - Uriah Heep
If I Had a Son - Vin Garbutt
Oh Ellen Vannin - Trad (Up until 2003 this was the unofficial national anthem of the Isle of Man)

When I read the thread title one track immediately came to mind. It's time and place - I was 13 when it came out and it's the first track I reacted to like an adult. 40 years later I can see weaknesses I couldn't then but it never fails to lift my spirits:

Why is ELO featuring so much on people's lists? It's not as if they were even a particularly big band, but Mr Blue Sky is the only no-brainer on my list.
ZZ Top. THE best Deep South Rhythm 'n Sleaze. La Grange in this case. Been in the music collection since Uni.

Annie Lennox. She and Dave Stewart made the Eurythmics something very special and produced loads of great tracks. She has a voice to die for. Or to. It's a thin line between love and hate is a cover, picked to show off her voice:

Have you heard their second most recent album? It's excellent. I have all the ELO there is, including the Jeff Lynn album out recently.

No, I haven't. I rather stopped paying attention to them - I was young and my tastes were changing quickly, the album after Out of the Blue was (?) Diary of Horace Wimp or something and not up to much I thought. Queen, Genesis, Kate Bush, the whole Punk movement, Pink Floyd, Supertramp Led Zep were big at the time. ELO just rather disappeared.

It strikes a chord as my father in law was a miner and that was exactly his attitude.

I have far too many favorites to limit to 3, but at this moment in time I would choose these.

Was listening to the radio the other day and they played this . I'd never heard of it before . I was wondering if any of you had. Written in 1928. I thought it was the cutest song about a bad time in the twentieth century.
One evening as the sun went down
And the jungle fires were burning,
Down the track came a hobo hiking,
And he said, "Boys, I'm not turning
I'm headed for a land that's far away
Besides the crystal fountains
So come with me, we'll go and see
The Big Rock Candy Mountains
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains,
There's a land that's fair and bright,
Where the handouts grow on bushes
And you sleep out every night.
Where the boxcars all are empty
And the sun shines every day
And the birds and the bees
And the cigarette trees
The lemonade springs
Where the bluebird sings
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains.
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
All the cops have wooden legs
And the bulldogs all have rubber teeth
And the hens lay soft-boiled eggs
The farmers' trees are full of fruit
And the barns are full of hay
Oh I'm bound to go
Where there ain't no snow
Where the rain don't fall
The winds don't blow
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains.
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
You never change your socks
And the little streams of alcohol
Come trickling down the rocks
The brakemen have to tip their hats
And the railway bulls are blind
There's a lake of stew
And of whiskey too
You can paddle all around it
In a big canoe
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains,
The jails are made of tin.
And you can walk right out again,
As soon as you are in.
There ain't no short-handled shovels,
No axes, saws nor picks,
I'm bound to stay
Where you sleep all day,
Where they hung the jerk
That invented work
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains.
....
I'll see you all this coming fall
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
One evening as the sun went down
And the jungle fires were burning,
Down the track came a hobo hiking,
And he said, "Boys, I'm not turning
I'm headed for a land that's far away
