There's a floating "Download Now" "Play Now" pop-up that occasionally obscures a part of the playing field, and if there's a time limit to play then there's no point in playing at all.

Some context around this would be helpful.

It can happen almost any time I'm on FG. Always on the left-hand side and I guess it's the click-choice sans the description of what it is I'm suppose to enter once I've clicked it. It (they) just sort of floats there on its own like a ghost. I darn't click the thing. Well, actually I did click on it by mistake while I was taking aim on the "Bubble Shooter" game. It was right in the line of fire but I quickly did a bunk so I still don't know what the thing is. I'm guessing it's that PUP doing its worst.

You might find Revo Uninstaller useful, it is good for removing everything a program installs leaving no trace as the built in uninstaller might.

There is a paid for version and a free one HERE

Might be worth looking at the Pro Version HERE if you are that way inclined.

Await some feedback from the pro's before acting on my information, but it worked for me for many years.

I talk in the past because I am now on Linux and don't need such programs.
I thought I knew more than this until I opened my mouth

Right. I see a pattern now. It's a floating "Download Now" "Play Now" pop-up and very faintly (some way beneath it) I can see "iLivid" which also floats with it. Once it materializes it seems to stay with me as long as I remain logged onto FG. I've resolved the issue with my McAfee anti-virus program and the PUPs. I've managed to quarantine them and I've removed all of the supporting **** that I could find. But ....... this problem persists.

Ps. No, that's not true. It is gone for the moment.

I've used Revo Uninstaller. It removes all trace of the programme, far deeper than the one in your control panel will. I also use CCleaner to clean up occasionally. It's suprising the amount of temp files that clog the system.

AVG free has kept watch over my well used laptop very well for the last 2 years, along with regular scans with SuperAntiSpyware, which also has a free version.

I had Norton some years back and that was as virulent as the crap is was supposed to protect me from...and (then) very difficult to uninstall.

I would like Revo much better if I can buy a copy and install it on a bootable USB stick or something, so I can make it part of a clean-up process for infected system.

They seem to sell it to install permanently on licensed systems. I don't see having a regular use for it on a single PC.

I may give that a try, and see how it works.

Well, that bloody tears it. I was just making a reply to the "What would you like to see" thread. All done, just having a read before clicking the send button. Suddenly up pops an advert .... not above or behind my FG contribution mind, but REPLACING it! My work was gone. I was just about to put my fist through the computer screen when my wife suggested I push the "return" arrow, up in the left-hand corner. Thank God for that!

OK. Revo, you say?

Problem might be that the Revo is an uninstaller and as I've already quarantined those 3 PUPs with my McAfee there are now no offensive bugs visible to "uninstall". Should I find a way to release the PUP's and allow the Revo to identify them and uninstall them you think?

Thanks for the advice. I have, however, already installed the Revo, tossed Google Chrome out and installed Mozzila Fire Fox. I've now run the Revo to remove Google Chrome (only, so far) and the odd thing is that while running the games here on FG I got "reset to game start" a number of times and got a notice from Mozilla that there is some problem and that I ought to shut off whatever program it is that I'm using.

I'm trying to discern whether the problem is only while on FG or during Internet usage in general. I'm stymied. :-3 Am I the only member with a complaint?

I am fairly certain that you problem was not with Chrome.

I would suggest you look at that third link I sent.

It has some good malware and adware removal tools, most of them are free.

I just took a PC my grandkid had been using, and found a number of adware, and junkware issues on it, ran the Junk Removal tool, which cleaned it up rather nicely.

REVO is a decent tool for removing installed programs, but it does not know anything about malware.

Bit defender is a good virus and malware detector, but I have not tested its removal abilities.

You may want to spend the money to install Malwarebyte premium edition.

It is quite effective.

And I have never had any problem with FG. (I don't play much on the game arcade, though, and have adblock installed on my Chrome, so I don't expect to see what you describe.)

well, a quick google query turns up a few things about MediaMath.

MediaMath | CrunchBase

MediaMath | LinkedIn

However, they do not report any offices in France.

but some company in France may have made use of their digital Marketing system.

McAfee can blacklist that site, or IP and keep you from ever being directed there.

Would it be a plausable explanation that they've "stolen" the reputable name MediaMath and used Paris as its proxy address? NOTE it says "Services: None detected".

PISSSSSSS! I just got another "black out" with this message:

Mozilla Crash Report

We’re Sorry

Firefox had a problem and crashed. We’ll try to restore your tabs and window when it restarts.

To help us diagnose and fix the problem, you can send us a crash report.

Your crash report will be submitted before you quit or restart.

So I filled in the report, inluding the aksed-for page I was on (Forum Garden) ... and my e-post address for notification. But when I clicked onto the submit button I was immediately routed to the home page of Webssearch which is the ****ing culprit to my fundamental problem!!!!!

So will my e-post be hijacked and Forum Garden infected because of my misplaced trust?

But you definitely need to get that cleaned up. It will hijack whatever browser you try to use.

Possibly.

I would suggest, now, looking into adding MalwareBytes anti-malware, or perhaps Spy-ware Search and destroy to your repertoire

Mcafee has never proven to be the best or most effective defender of PCs. one of those items would enhance you malware protection.

Thank you for the advice, and I promiss to have a look at them. Actually, we have a paid subscription service to "Telia Säker Surf" through the Swedish telecommuncations. It isn't connected (to this computer) at the moment because my wife and I just bought new computers (me a stationary, she a lap top) and rather than have the anti-virus service transferred from our old ones immediately, my lovely wanted to let the free-installed McAfee runs it's 1 month course first. Yes I know, but let's not talk logic when it comes to women. Sorry ladies. :lips:

Understandable

For Windows 7 and 8, I have found the Microsoft Windows Security Essentials is as effective a free security system as any. And unlike most free services, they don't dog you with offers to upgrade to the "premium version" all the time.

I have three different PCs running Windoze 7, and 2 with XP. The Win 7 units are all running different security configurations. So far, the one with Paid McAfee subscription seems the most oft infected.

I have another currently protected by a paid sub to BitDefender, which has never suffered any issues, and neither has the one using the Free Microsoft Security Essentials.

One XP is using MalwareBytes and Spybot Search and Destroy, recently installed to replace McAfee. Three bugs were found on it when I installed MalwareBytes.

Second XP unit has been running MS Security Essentials for years. I am going to install a third party AntiMalware to replace MS security because it is no longer supported by Microsoft. Don't know yet what I will use. But it will not be McAfee

This is fascinating stuff! I've never been much interested in computer talk, other than how to use Windows and Words, but I'm finding this rather interesting. I've only been changing gears and topping up the petrol but it must be time to look under the bonnet and have a rummage. :)

I am very curious. PUP’s “piggy back” (I think you called it) on the backs of normal downloads. Is that about right? But is the infection taking an opportunity while your computer has accepted the Internet download (with the door “open”) or is the infection actually attached to the down-loaded program itself? I mean, let’s say that you download one of the famously infected such as iLivid or VCL. The programs themselves aren’t so bad, except for the PUP that might creep in with it. What say you download them from the Internet onto a secondary computer, then copy the download onto a USB stick and transfer it to your main computer? Is the PUP left on the first computer or does it follow? I have used iLivid and it suits me very well. It would be nice to have it on my new computer, as long as it is safe.

The thing to remember about free software found on the net.

They probably are making money somewhere off of the product they offer.

Either the free software is bait, or they get their money from advertisers, or they are up to no good, themselves.

A lot of the A-V outfits offer a fee version of their software, and then spend a lot of time telling you how much safer you will be if you buy their "Premium version"

Many other offerings are similar.

Chances are that in this case the PUP software is in bedded, either in the installation package, or on the data stream that the install package downloads when you choose to install it.

Your best bet is to search places like PC magazine, or MaximumPC websites, and read up on recommendations for software tools you might want to try.

The one you have seems to have, at best, a dodgy reputation.

I've had a quick look at the link and read a couple of the comments. One says that the product was good until the update infected two of his computers. So we're back to the stand-by - avoid freeware, pay for something and stop worrying .... yes?

I have found that to be a trustworthy strategy.

Though you might find this site worthy of review:

Search Results for “video downloader”: SourceForge

There are a lot of great open source products to be found that are fairly trustworthy.

Usually, rather than paying a commercial producer, you can help fund private developers.

Good Lord, that link is a hell of a read! I'll be stuck into it for days.

I don't want to tread on anyone's toes because Larsmac's advice is as good as you will find here.

You have to be aware of two sources of problems. The programme/software to use and the source from which you download from.

A trusted site that I have used many times is FileHippo.com - Download Free Software

It provides media, security, developer, office/news, browser, anti malware....etc etc, as well as updates, within a safe environment to download from.

I'm sure there are many sites such as this. I'm just suggesting one that I have used for quite a few years

Looks like a pretty useful site. Thanks for the suggestion.

Is there a size limit on these forums? I keep trying to make a longer post & it keeps coming up with 500 Internal Server Error.
