John Kitna - out of retirement - Dallas Quarterback
Any one following this story?
John Kitna has been asked to come back to be a Quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys.
John is a school teacher at Lincoln High School in Tacoma Washington.
I attended/ graduated from Lincoln High School as well as the rest of my Family.
John's signing bonus was donated to Lincoln High.
That's amazing - not too many kids can say my teacher is a quarterback for Dallas.
Go John

Gosh. That's quite something, to be called back out of retirement. But in a sport as intense as your football, will he be able to cope having been out of the game for a time? I'd be very worried for a Rugby player who came back out of retirement firstly for their own safety; and secondly because Rugby moves on year by year and the tactics that worked a year ago can be useless now. I think that Rugby and American Football are similar enough that these might be concerns for Mr Kitna too...?

Kitna's been retired for @ 3 yrs.
Dallas Cowboys decided to bring him back as he knows the play book etc.
Instead of giving the play book to a new recruit having to learn in a day or 2.
I have to watch the Cowboys & cheer on this young man - Kitna's 41 yrs. old.
My hubby is a 49er fans - so I'll have to watch on another T.V..:yh_rotfl
Kitna's story is big big news in Tacoma-Seattle area.

This sort of thing is one of the reasons I love sport in general - it has a real romance to this. I can completely understand it being a big local story
Do let me know how he goes. We occasionally get some American Football shown here so I'll keep an eye out. Or might be able to get one of his games off the internet somewhere...

I wish you could watch
Cowboys Quarterback has been Tony Romo - he's hurt & probably out for the season.
Cowboys will now use their back-up Quarterback and Cowboys recruited Kitna - they had no one else in the line-up.
Cowboys play tomorrow - if this back-up Quarterback Kyle Horton doesn't play well they could very possibly use Kitna. If Horton gets injured then Kitna would start.
Very cool story -
Kitna seems to be the greatest Human Being - he may not make it into the "Hall of Fame" It'll be the "Hall of Humans"
Watch a interview today - Kitna - his wife & 3 kids - pretty family.
Kitna stated he has always donated 20% of his earnings back into the community.
Some years it'll be 1 MILLION some years it was $ 800 thousand.
very humble young man - he stated " really" how much money does one need?
I remember when Kitna started teaching - he not only purchased all new uniforms for the "Lincoln Abes" - Kitna bought all new uniforms for EVERY HIGH SCHOOL in Tacoma.
He will continue to donate 20% of his earnings.
I don't know Kitna or anyone of his siblings/family - I wished I did.
The only thing we have in common is the High School.
I'll be looking forward to seeing this young man play - very exciting.
I'll keep you updated - hope you get a chance to watch the game at some time this season.
Go Cowboys ( don't let my hubby know this)!!!!:yh_rotfl

Chuckle. Won't tell your hubby as long as you don't tell my mate Smudge about me following the Cowboys. He's a Seahawk fan and goes over once a year to watch them.
Fun little story goes with that: Smudge got into his American Football when posted with the Army to Germany must be 20 or 30 years ago now. He was Signals, so was in the Allied HQ which was mostly American and because he's HUGE got asked to play for the local US Army team. He was a blocker of some sort (sorry don't know the right terms) and absolutely hammered this bloke coming the other way. Poor bloke was ko'd, arm broken and bruised everywhere else (just bad luck I'm assured). Old Smudge was a bit alarmed when he was told by his grinning team mates that he'd just blasted a 4 star general...In the Mess that night he was (in his phrase) pooing himself when he saw the General come in with arm in plaster, eyeball him and come over. Smudge was waiting for the storm to break as the General limped up, looked him in the eye and said, "Nice block, son."
Smudge said he'd have gone to hell with that General if asked, after that.

I graduated Lincoln High School, too! In Brooklyn NY. Called it "Stinkin' Lincoln" 'cause I kinda hated it. I was a truant, but a smart one. Our football team was & is called Railsplitters. The baseball team has the same name. So does the Basketball team. Sorry to report, but so does the soccer team.
Geez, not much imagination going on is there?
Neil Sedaka went to my High School, before me, as did the Tokens ("the Lion Sleeps Tonight"). So did Neil Diamond. So did: I am astounded at the list! Arthur Miller! Lou Gossett! Drummer Buddy Rich! Joseph Heller! John Forsythe! Herbie Mann! Stephon Marbury! & more, including the founder of E! television who graduated with me, although I don't remember him, Larry Namer.
I didn't know I have such illustrious company, thanks Patsy!

I liked Kitna when he was plying.
But I think the Cowboys may have a tough time.
Orton (not Horton) was Broncos QB for a while. He could do OK if the O-line could protect him and give him time, but then he was replaced by Tim Tebow, who seemed to be an improvement (mostly because of his sheer unpredictability).
And if the Cowboys' O-line was able to protect the QB. they would probably still have Romo.
You never know, though. If they pull this game out, they make the playoffs, and anything can happen.
Wouldn't that be a story?

Yup. would make a great story, but I put my money on the Eagles this weekend.
The way my bets have been going this year, that mighta sealed the deal for the 'boys.

I've never liked the Cowboys
I'm not a serious Fan for any team really
When I play on a football pool (betting) - I pick teams that wear RED.
I won a few times with my method and that pissed a few serious fans off....:yh_rotfl
Oh, I loved it...
By chance Lars - did you see the 49er's game last week?
That was a birthday present for the coach.
My hubby is a serious football/sports nut. He use to play with O.J. Simpson at USC.
Big Man - Big Niner's fan - it's RED....:yh_rotfl

A lot of my family are Falcon fans. They had their hopes up at half time in that game.
I told them the niners were just giving them a head start before they started playing. They are not talking to me this week.
They're usually a fun team to watch. Their new stadium is just around the corner from my company's headquarters. We like red, too.
Though, my three favorite NFL teams are the Saints, the Broncos and whoever is playing the Cowboys.

We said good-bye to Candlestick Park last week
My hubby has been there many times for baseball & football
quite a landmark - many memories.
Cardinals & Niner's are playing now - both RED so it's a win win for me..:yh_rotfl
That new Cardinal's stadium is beautiful - it's right down the street from me.
I call the Niner's Quarterback Pumpernickel - hubby really doesn't appreciate that..:yh_rotfl

Well the Cowboys are done for the season.
Kitna will go back to Lincoln High School & teach math.
I'm sure when the students return from Holiday break there will be a huge celebration for their teacher Kitna....!:guitarist
Today is black Friday for Coach's
several will be fired - Vikings - Redskins - Browns - Texans have all fired their coach.

Now if we can just get Jerry to get rid of the red headed patsy (Garret) maybe we can start to get better.
Signed : Cowboy fan, but wavering..

So that's the end of the comeback story for John Kitna?
I'm sort of relieved as well as disappointed. I felt a lot was being asked of his body and was genuinely worried for him. I think this is the best result for him personally. But it would have been something a bit special for him to run out on the field of dreams and collisions again...

I'd have to agree with you.
Although a Quarter back is protected some what - a Quarter back takes some tough hard hits. We're all aging and think we can still do a task we did a few years ago.
Kitna is 41 - that's retirement time. He is where he should be - another career.
Nice young man though

Would really like to know what kind of bet Ol' Jerry had on that game.
I suspect that whoever Tony's Back-up is, next year, it probably won't be Kyle Orton.
Jerry is a vindictive fellow.
