Iran and the US united?

Post by flopstock »

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Wrestlers from the world's top wrestling nations plan to lie on their mats Thursday in Tehran in a unique show of unity to protest a decision by the International Olympic Committee to drop wrestling from the 2020 games.
Y! SPORTS

I think that this is a prime example of what the Olympics should be about. Bringing countries what would are normally enemies to common ground.

What the Olympics have become, on the other hand, is another corporate sellout event.

Seriously, is the problem ratings? Not enough folks from the wealthy countries buying tickets to the events?

I want more details on this.

I don't even watch wrestling, but I think that anything that has Iran and the USA on the same page may just be worth preserving!

The one thing we are sure was in the original Olympics was wrestling. Why on earth do we have things like golf which can hardly be called a sport but not wrestling? It's daft

Wrestling was one of nine events in the first modern day Olympics 1896 in Athens, Greece. Now they have voted it out to bring Golf in.

That was my first thought as well.

I don't watch the Olympics but I was stuck hearing about some of it when they had the Winter games here several years ago and found out there's a 'sport' where they sweep the ice in front of a kettle or something so the object will go where they want it. WTF?
