.... missed!
Cephalophore: (Gk, “head-carrier”) a decapitated saint, generally depicted with his head in his hands or with it tucked under his arm. The most well-known is Denis, patron saint of Paris, who, after his head was lopped off by Romans at the summit of Mont Mars (now Montmartre), picked it up and carried it for six miles, miraculously preaching a sermon along the way.

It wasn't carved from the... I was about to say life. It wasn't carved from the death. Neither was it carved from memory. It is an anachronistic fictional construct of an event which never happened in the first place. As for JJ wishing he'd heard the sermon I suggest he begins by learning Latin before trying to follow the Saint's argument. It's moments like this which induce sympathy with the iconoclasts.

When flower power came along I stood for Human Rights, marched around for peace and freedom, had some nooky every night - we took it serious.
Who has a spare two minutes to play in this month's FG Trivia game! ... My other OS is Slackware.

You can see, from the storyline, why the carvers chose that particular expression for the statue.

Mike the Headless Chicken lived for 18 months without a head. I don't know if he was also a preacher though.
