What's in your wallet?

Post by cars »

What's in your wallet? (Visa TV commercial question to get you to use "their" low interest rate card) Credit Card (CC) interest rates vary from the various companies. Living on CC's can get out of control if one is not disciplined. It's "like" really "floating-a-loan" for major purchases that is known up front can not be "paid-in-full' when the bill comes the following month!

WHAT IS THE HIGHEST & or LOWEST INTEREST RATE ON YOUR CARD(s)?

I can't remember when I last used a credit card.... maybe a year ago. I can't remember where my card is. I only use it for major purchases which benefit from being protected under section 75 of the consumer credit act 1974 (IIRC), which provides that in certain circumstances the credit supplier (card issuer) will be jointly responsible with the supplier of goods or services for breach of contract or misrepresentation. It is worth noting that credit suppliers don't like this (but there is nothing that they can do about it), so banks etc. will try to get you to use a debit card, which does NOT offer any extra protection at all. The APR is AFAIR 16%.

To answer that question my jeans are doing duty as my wallet, at the moment. In the pockets are:

A red plastic comb.

Two old bank cards for scraping ice off the car windscreen.

3 earplugs.

Several brass and steel screws.

Lots of old receipts.

An Opinel penknife.

Some notes about various things.

Some small pieces of cardboard (?).

First and second-class stamps.

About £230 in £20 and £10 notes.

A "store loyalty" (read: free consumer profiling) card.

Some loose change (approx. £10.5)

Some .22 cartridge cases.

Two special stones (the Young Master's).

No, not unless I suddenly improve in my shooting and get into the Olympic smallbore rifle team. I was shooting an average of just under 98 (out of 100) last week (25 metre indoor), and I'd need to "up" that considerably, probably to 99.8 or better. I wanted a couple of cartridge cases to make some holes in a piece of leather. I must get a round tuit.

In my wallet:

security card/pass for work

drivers license

monthly bus pass

debit card

roughly $11 - I don't like carrying cash

a wooden blue chip to remind me of priorities

several membership cards - student id, Smithsonian, ACLU, Humane Society, etc

Ok, I gotta ask. Where does it say that credit card debt is float? I thought it's really more of a short-term loan unless it extends beyond a year and then it becomes long-term debt.

The credit card company doesn't expect you to have the funds available to pay it in full. They count on you not paying it in full.

Float, from my understanding (which is limited, I must admit!), is when you write checks and the money is on its way to the bank, but isn't there yet.

:D WOW!! I guess I need to be more careful with the old frazes I used to use outside of the Forum. I was not referring to (would never) any legal ramifications & or meaning in that "catchy" term. (It was only (like) an analogy)

I'm laughing at myself. I take these things seriously, ya know. :) Often, my school grade and part of my job depends on this kinda stuff.

Wallet is a frightening mess... Im gripped with fear everytime Im asked to show my drivers liscence. Praying I can find it so they dont think Im trying to pass bad checks. Ive had to dump my whole bag on the conveyor belt many times.
