If you like wines please post to this thread and tell us your most recent purchase----------Name of the wine, producer, and most important, what did you pay for it, and did you like it. I'll start it------------------
I bought yesterday a bottle of Pinot Noir produced by a South African winery by the name of "Two Oceans" The onsale and unbelievable price was $6.50 NZD, $3.45 USD.
Without going into a lot of wine tasting gobledegook I will say it was fine. I have paid a lot more for much less taste and flavor. The bottle shown is a Shiraz. I could not find a picture of their Pinot Noir.

Lon, we have a store in northern NJ called "Trader Joes," This store is a beautiful store because it has all sorts of odd bits and pieces from countries all over the world....I love their products from Spain and Portugal. I think that you know this store as they may have started in CA....not sure...You can literally buy a case of lovely wines for $60.....unheard of here....
I had a lovely Pinot Noir from the Australian "Pepperwood Grove" the other night. I really enjoy the wines from this company. This pinot had delicate hints of cherries and strawberries....Very nice indeed and only $10

I like Trader Joes and there is one within a couple miles of where I live in California. I will make note of the "Pepperwood Grove" and give it a go when I get back. Wine prices are really plummeting do to the ecomomy and a real glut in the amount of wines on the market. That's great news for we Oenophiles.

PEPPERJACK IS ANOTHER REALLY GOOD AUSSIE WINE EITHER IN SHIRAZ OR CAB SAV.I LOVE THE PINO FROM NZ CALLED ST CLARE,LOVELY DROP.AUD USUALLY ABOUT $20.:yh_drool

I'm not just a huge wine drinker. However, a friend of mine brought over a bottle of Moscato by Marco di Negri. If that stuff was cheaper, I'd buy it more but it's around $18.00 a bottle. If anyone knows what this tastes like and can tell me what my "kind" of wine is, maybe I can find a cheaper version. It's a sweet white wine but that's about all I know to say on how to describe it. Oh, and it's an "asti" whatever that means.
I probably posted that in an ambien trance-soryy

Thanks---------Marco Negri Moscato it is. It's made from muscat grapes which produce sweet wines. No offense, but muscatels are favorites with winos. If you would like to move into other wines but find them not sweet enough, try a Rose for a bit and then try something like a Pinot Noir with a bit of cheese. Sweet wines like a muscatel have a higher alcohol concentration than the drier wines and tend to give some people an headache.

At 18 bucks a bottle, they must be rich winos then haha!

It's nice to find a wine that you like Kaz....I'm more into chardonnays. I love the buttery taste...
I don't drink too much red wine because the tannins affect my allergies. I do love the Aussie "Peppergrove" wines now. I love their pinot noirs and merlots.
My nephew worked in a famous French restaurant in Noo Joisey two years. He bought a bottle of "Chateau Le Prieure St. Laurent Bordeaux 2000 for my birthday. He kept telling me that it was a very, very good wine..to save it for a special occasion. I think he was trying to tell me that he paid a lot for it:-6 The restaurant gave him a discount on this wine.
I can't seem to locate any info on this particular wine...it's from the year 2000, and I know it's better than some of the cheaper 2006 wines that I've seen advertised.
Oh well, I plan to open it this weekend and just enjoy it:-4:p

Interesting--------I did not know that N.M.produced any wines but a search came up with "Ponderosa Winery" at 5,800 ft elevation, which is suitable I guess for growing certain grapes. I will look for Ponderosa at a Wine Shop.

Thanks Kathy for your post----------I will add this wine to my list of wines to try. Some French wines are certainly fine but they have lost some of their mystique and allure when in the mid 60's 6 French Wine Judges picked a Napa Valley wine over one of the heralded French reds.
The blind testing was repeated and they once again picked the Napa Valley California red. This really put the Napa Valley on the map and where in the 60's there were no more than 10 wineries of particular note, now there are over 250. a bit of wine trivia

Im an admitted wino. Have had the opportunity to taste very expensive wine,
and have been very dissapointed. Price does not guarantee enjoyment. I am very good at discovering bargain wines, that take off, and increase in price,
shortly after being on the market. From experience as the buyer of a small bar, I know that a bottle you pay 28.00 for in a restaurant has a purchase price of around 7.00. In a supermarket I will never pay more than 11.00 a bottle for wine.
Some good ones discovered this year:
Black Beret 10.39 Grenache Syrah South of France
Rockbridge 13.00 Pinot Noir Virginia
Ruffino Il Leo Chianti 9.00 California
Chardonnay Viognier 8.00 France
Sonoma Red Zinfandel 2006 9.00 California
When I was young I drank Chianti and Valpoicella. Grew up, got sophisticated, and fell in love with Pinot Noir. I have recently rediscovered good Itallian wines that have the same body as Pinots.
Try the Malbec family of wines also.. Deeper than Pinots, Lighter than Cabernets.
The Black Beret is absolutely delicious. Blackberries hit your tongue, the moment the wine goes into your mouth.

I couldn't agree more with you about wine pricing. There is no real distinctive difference between an expensive wine and a moderately priced wine that can justify the difference in price. Lot's of hype going on.

I was invited to a Round The World wine tasting party, a couple of years ago.
A sommiler? ( Wine Expert) from Sea Island went into his wine cellar, and presented us with about 8 bottles to taste. The wines were from Italy, Africa, Spain, South America, France etc... Prices per bottle ranged from about $200.00 to $275.00. One taste was worse than the next. I had to find ways to get into the kitchen, unnoticed, to dump my taste down the drain. The obnoxious thing was that the friends with me were oohing and ahhing over this horrible, and bitter sludge... just because they were in awe of the price. To me it was just another example of being able to sell anything to people unable to honesly make their own decisions for fear of
offending snobs. Like paying 90.00 for jeans worth 20 because they have a name on the pocket.
Its fun to experiment with wine. And its thrilling when the public is presented with a new grape, lovingly grown, to taste. Virginia wines have gained praise over the last 10 years. In the beginning, even I scoffed at Va wines.
Two of my favorites now are:
Jefferson Chardonnay. The cost is a little pricey about 16.00 a bottle.
So, once you taste it you search for something similar for less.
And as I mentioned before
Rockbridge Pinot Noir. About 13.00 a bottle.
I had too much Black Beret the other night, for my birthday with a friend.
So, I will be on the wagon this week.

It makes me feel like Im a part of something. Like maybe I belong somewhere. Anytime you want to trade off dragging eachother into our own little private hell's just holler.
So...cheap wine. Its an acquired taste but have you enjoyed MD 20/20 ?
Its kind of any time sipper. 5am, lunchbreak, on the way to pick up another bottle.
