What are you cutting back on?

With the credit crunch kicking in, i have had to review my luxerie's in life.

The choice of what to sacrifice in the event of hard times is a real tough one that i can see leading to divorce.

Shall i cancel his fishing magazine or cancel my Avon catalogue.

Choice's ??

Gadgets?? What are they? They are some mysterious objects that men have to have and women don't understand. He can do without gadgets i'm sure

To tell the truth, i buy the leg wax and then at the last minute, due to lack of time, use his razor :wah:

Luxuries were left behind long ago, only the basics-to keep TKD and gym membership, I stopped about 5 journals and 2 magazine subscriptions. We already gave the going out to eat stuff, and cook at home all the time. If I could only give up the nurse, that is $1,000+ a month......

Well I started cutting back about a year ago. Just woke up one day and say do I need 600 or more channels to watch I'm never home? Do I need a bunch of extra feature on my land line phone? Do I need extra's on my Cell Phone? The answer was a loud NO Just these 3 areas saves me about $110.00 a month I was shocked. You be surprised what you can live without.

I won't sell my 1973 Camaro just won't I'm the original owner, its like a friend to me. :driving:

Hubs wants to keep the 1992 Explorer but is getting voted down big time and its because we now have daughter's car & my new Honda. Besides the Explorer needs alot of work and isn't even inspected and is collecting parking tickets every Thursday courtesy of the street cleaner. He claims he's going to fix it:wah: Time to wave goodbye as I have no intention of insuring it.

Oh Yeah at least once a week. It is tip top shape and a beauty I could sell get offers all the time. :driving: I bought a used 2005 Honda Civic a little over a year ago. I love it my gas bill was cut more than in half.

Right now I'm driving a 2008 Explorer and I do love the luxury of it, but half the time it sits in the driveway as gas is way too expensive. I'm getting the Honda tomorrow, and can't wait. It looks as though I will be the main driver of it as daughter has messed up a couple of times with her car (no accidents, but lots of tickets):mad: In fact, I told hubs last night, sorry dude, but the Honda is MINE:wah:

We have sold our car for a smaller one.

I have a motorbike to ride to school when the weather is good.

All light bulbs are energy savers,hardly use the phone,our garden has been filled with natives,we use our grey water to water vege garden less on the water bill.

Since I gave up wine & icecream the food bill is smaller;):wah::-6

We never water the garden except in th beginning as Mother Nature see's to that. Although I do have to water the pots that are in the shade.

I went away for the month of August and hubs said he would water the container out front (never did) and so I came up from the beach for the day and stuck the hose right into the container and forgot about it (about an hour). Came home from the shore 2 weeks later, the damn thing had exploded with all sorts of goodies like parsley, oregano, chives, basil, hot peppers, and tomitilla tomatoes. The way to go. Of course, I had to water the thing:wah:

I have a very tight budget as I am living on whats called a Fellowship Grant until 2010, so I am already running pretty much as cheaply as possible. I am secure in the position I am in which is very lucky for me, but I am getting increasingly alarmed now though.

I think that our economy in Ireland, and everywhere in the West is going to hit a brick wall in a couple of month and that at the moment its only moving along through inertia. Our debt levels are terrifying, the banking system is broken, the value of real companies is now getting wiped out on stock markets, the credit we have lived on for the last 15 years is gone, and the impact on the economy is going to be devastating in the coming 12 months.

The situation doesn't appear to be improving at all, and we are staring into worst case scenario's now, and the chance of their being a worldwide depression for several years is quite high in my opinion. Unless the G7 can do something miraculous I can't see there being one clear way to solve this problem.

My advice would be cut back on everything possible, sell anything you don't really need and is might be possible to sell to make a few quid, save every extra bit of cash you have and put it into some form of safekeeping.

Yes indeed, well I realized like everyone that much harder times were on the way, but I had hoped that we would avoid the worst of it, I am afraid I don't see that happening now, and I think we are all in for it frankly. Of course its not the end of the world, or anything so melodramatic, though its going to feel a bit like it is, and its definitely going to be a seriously bloody difficult time for the lot of us little people, that I am sure of.

In recent times we have all grown a bit spoiled by the ease of living that our societies have provided for us, so its going to be shock for many of us to experience that changing so quickly, back into a much less comfortable type of life. I grew up in Ireland when it was a very difficult time, and my family suffered from poverty at that time, I am sad to think that many people are going to find themselves in that situation again, and even worse.

I think that the western economies will kinda stumble on for a while until after christmas, and then, barring a miracle, lights out time.

There will always be music, Oscar. It doesn't cost a cent-pull out the guitar like Dr. G, or listen to it on the radio if you don't download it for free off the net. My violins, piano and flutes are all nice and safe here, bad times makes no difference in how pretty they sound. I get most of my sheet music for free off the net, doesn't cost me anything. I just do not have the time to play it all!

I like to add to my collections with rare c.d's and albums. Downloading them would not be the same.

I also scour car boot sales (garage sales) for them.

I buy alot off e bay with autographs etc.

If i give that up, Mr Oscar will have to give up buying rare fishing reels (yawn) on e bay.

Divorce.

:wah: It is both of your hobbies, to collect things. I just prefer live music and am easily amused. (doesn't hurt to hire yourself out at Christmas time to orchestras, I always pay for all my presents that way) I only collect old books or journals that I need for research sources, otherwise, I get enough free books sent to me that I tote them off to school to store. (what else is a science storeroom for!)

A musical instrument-ah, I have those, no need to cut back

Lots of music

Lots of books

I will save up money for archive trips this fall,(about $20/day for transportation) and am anticipating a research trip in the summer. That will be big bucks for me, I will have to save all winter. But it will be a nice adventure to go on. My old profs told me to go last week, and off I will go!
