Foods you used to hate.

Post by K.Snyder »

Buttercups thread had brought to my attention some of the foods I used to hate as a kid, but love now.

I'm sure everyone hated some type of food when they were a kid, but can't get enough of them now.

When I was a kid I used to hate spinach on end...

Now, I love all types of greens -- Mustard, Collard, Turnip, Kale, all of them.

I used to not like carrots cooked either, but now I love carrots sauteed in brown sugar and butter.

I never really cared much for beans and cornbread, but now beans and cornbread cooked in the crock-pot(beans) all day with some greens(ha) is one of my favorite meals.

I'm sure there are some other foods that I am forgetting, but I'm sure I'll remember and post them later...

So what foods did you used to hate, but love now?

Oh, yeah.

I used to hate mixed vegetables when I was a kid, but I love them now cooked with butter. And lima beans I don't mind so much...I hated them too.

Is it because of the thought on how it's made, or you just don't like the taste of it?

I never liked asparagus, and I haven't tried it ever since the first time I tasted it. I don't think I will ever like asparagus.

I never tried oysters...

I always wanted to try them, but never think to get them...that and I am not very keen on buying seafood from the grocery store. I like my seafood as fresh as possible.

I don't think I will ever try caviar...in fact, I know I won't.

If you like Oysters - you have to try them cooked in their shell on a barbecue - when their done the shell pops open - wonderful.

If you like carrots cooked alittle - there's a recipe "Copper Pennies" - super simple to make - delicious - 1/4 C salad oil

2 lbs carrots - peeled / sliced - 1 tsp. mustard

1-10oz. can tomato soup - 1 green pepper - sliced

1 T worcestershire sauce - 1/4 C Vinegar

1 White onion

Prepare vegetables. Cook carrots until tender - drain water. Put all ingredients together and bring to a boil. Remove from heat - add carrots - stir - let sit.

Carrots can be served hot or cold. Refrigerate - Carrots will last 3- 4 weeks.

I make these Carrots - hand out a jar over the Holidays

As far as food I hated as a kid - Peas - I don't go out of my way to eat them..

Try the recipe

Oh that's another one...I love peas now...I hated them as a kid...

Kids are such spoiled rotten...:lips: ...well thay are...I was one of them.

I was forced to eat them along with other foods I didn't like that were good for me...Didn't stop me from complaining about it, and trying to get away without eating them.

We weren't allowed to be picky - we had to eat what was on our plate.

I'd still be at the dinner table @ 10:00 P.M. poking at those peas.

Stubborn child - I still don't care for them

what is all the crap that kids can only drink milk. i would do without before i would drink milk too. wouldn't drink it at school either. it got to be the principle of it. they were not going to make me do it......and i won.....

My brother used to hide them in a ring under his plate, you know how the plates set off the table by about an inch? He would hide them all around it, trying to get away without eating the peas. We always had to clean up after ourselves so it rarely worked...but on some occasions we were aloud to run off without having to take our plates to the kitchen. I guess to him the chance was well worth it.

Just remembered...

I never really cared much for chocolate cake...It wasnt so much that I hated it, it was just that I preferred white cake over chocolate cake, no question...

I still would rather have white cake than chocolate...I just find chocolate cake too rich for my taste.

ahaha funny stufff....

when I was a kid I hated peas and baked potatoes, but.... when served both I had to grudginly eat the baked potato, so I could hide the peas inside the scooped out skin.

To date still hating peas.

Love baked taters now.

Also as a kid hated ham now like it,

eggs I detested, to date can eat them all except fried oooo vomit.

I hated bacon as a kid too bleck now I don't mind it in little bits

Hated steak and roast beef as a kid, still not kean on roast beef but love steak

turnips, and brussel sprouts as well, could not stand as a kid, now if cooked right they aren't so bad.

Ketchup bleck, ketchup still bleck.

The worst of all........................

Butter and margerin bleck never ever as a kid would I eat that, still don't use either.... that stuck with me, and drives my kid nuts that I do not butter her sandwiches, heck rarely do we have either in the house ahahahaha

I like to take one that's really nice and ripe, smash it in a bowl with a little lemon juice, salt, pepper, and just eat it with a spoon. :)

I used to hate beetroot because I was always given it pickled in vinegar which I don't like. WITHOUT the vinegar it's really quite nice....only taken me 60 years to discover it :D

Many say Bluegill is the best fish they have ever tried...

Don't think very many would pick the bones out of Bluegill...

If you did, there wouldn't be anything left.

Unless it's catfish, I avoid the family fish frys. I don't care for trout, and by the time they actually get around to cooking everything it's midnight.
