Pyewacket is the name of a cat in a popular kid's book from many years ago.

Pyewacket is the name of a children's novel written by Rosemary Weir. First published in 1967, the narrative centers around the destruction of a series of row houses from the viewpoint(s) of Pyewacket, a resilient alley cat, and his friends who stay on the property and adapt to a new life.

We always waited about a week or two before name ours, to see how their personality was and what suited them.

Chopper...........because she was a toughy, so chopper as in motorcycle

Bug................because he was a pest

Shrek.........because he was huge

Socks........he has four white feet..........and President Clinton had a cat named socks, which I thought was a cool name.

Jack...........he just suited it.............and from Will & Grace.............just Jack!

Haha!! :) I used to get to name the animals who came into the shelter and after a while we had to get creative or they'd all have the same names. That and some names "sell" the animal better than others.

We used to name them after the places we found them. Hence, Arlington, Arli for short and then Chancellor found in an alley in Philly. Mom named the next batch Foley & Watson and now she is blessed with Darcy.

Usually people responded better to animals named Lucky, Princess, King, Rambo, Dillinger, names like those. When we had big dogs or dogs like Rotts and Pits and they came to us with names like "Killer" or "Fuhrer" we changed those immediately to something friendly. Like Sammy or something like that. I had a beautiful longhaired cat in shelter who I named Grainne after the Irish pirate queen and she got adopted quickly. But I think that was more just luck. :)

James Stewart didn't play Harvey.

I still think if he's long haired, off white, grey markings, deep blue eyes, playful and loving he ought to be named after Beethoven, he was all of that.
