What do you do for a living ?

Post by Mookey1229 »

I also started as a hairdresser right out of high school... After that I then got married and had two boys that I love dearly.. Worked part time for the school district while they were growing up. I ended up working in the Special Education Department at the Hight School with kids that could not behave, were troubled, on drugs etc. I loved it and the kids. Got a divorce and moved on. Opened a beauty shop in my home so I could be home with the boys and did that until my back gave out. (about 12 years) Then I got a part time job with an Investment Company and eventually became a senior branch office administrator. After 15 years of that I quit to help raise my first grandson. I am on the 5th grandchild and she is the first girl out of the five.... Last one I hope. She will turn 1 on the 29th of this month. Yes, I did re-marry a wonderful guy and we have been married 23 years.:D

Fun topic. :)

I work in animal rescue. I run a (very) small nonprofit org and have been involved since 1999.

I was a hairdresser for 2 or 3 years. I have also been a railroad dispatcher, wire tie assembly worker, motel maid, babysitter, work crew for setting up a TG&Y store and Payless Drug Store, telemarketer (vitamins and water purifiers,) cashier, assistant manager, customer service, shift manager for liquor store and more cashiering.

Oh- pizza maker! I forgot one. :D

You're right....most famous people are normal like us. There are quite a lot of actors and musicians that belong to the Buddhist group I belong to.

One of my brothers best friends is an actor fron 'last of the summer wine'. They have just an ordinary freindship, and the 'fame' thing is always set aside.

Funny how many 'gals' started off as Hairdressers (myself included) but have not made it their lifelong career. it was my ambition as a teenager, but after 4 years I hated it.

After i had my family I went into manufacturing just to earn money but it has truly been THE job for me. People have tried to tempt me into HR many times but manufacturing is challenging and I just love the hustle, bustle and 'buzz'.

OK:

From high school I joined a great bunch of people and traveled the globe too some strange places for ten years,I don't talk about that much because it is Touchy subject and I don't wanna talk about it.From there I became a self employed landscaper/carpenter.In 95 I got a job at Frito-lay as a packer, moved around the plant alot and now I am a certified sanitarian. Can't eat just one. With the birth of my little girl,(seven now)I became very involved in my local crime watch and school programs and I volunteer for what ever I can too be a part of my own and school. And I still do landscaping on the side,as well as I run the maintenance department at a old folks complex in my town. But I never skip my gym time, seven days with out flex makes one weak.

Since the kids left home I have done some studies & am now a T eachers Aide for special needs kids & I am still doing courses to be able to work more with kids with disabilities.

I am now going to try & get accepted at Uni as a mature aged student & would love to do childhood counselling, thanks orangesox1.

Since the drought my husband & I have both been working in town trying to keep the property afloat,no rain,no feed,no animals ,no cash. I have gone back to cleaning & hospitality,he has gone back to boilermaking.

So with very heavy hearts we have put our place on the market & we think it has sold.

I really love your positiveness although mother natures been a bitch and hope all goes well for you and your husband i wonder is it the experience with your own kids thats made you enjoy working with the up and coming generations?

Im now the practice manageress, which basically means i get all the shitty jobs, that the boss doesnt want to bother with, like dealing with the reps(not that there's anything wrong with being a rep mind) I keep saying that its time to move on, but if it aint broke and all that :)

I started out working as an insurance underwriter (while still in high school). From there, I moved on to work in the Accounts Receivable/Invoicing department at an air conditioning wholesaler. After that, I finally got my foot in the door with what was to be my "career" - a law office. I started out simply as a typist at a law office - sitting in front of a MANUAL typewriter all day doing nothing but straight typing. Over the years, however, I have worked at a few different firms and have managed to work my way up through the ranks (to secretary, then to partner's secretary, then to paralegal) to the position I have today - Office Administrator.

The Nuture Years - On The Move!

Born: 09/02/60 Hollywood CA.

Adopted immediately by teachers:

Father - genius physicist/fighter pilot.

Mother - Elementary school teacher.

(I never had a chance to be stupid)

Early years spent on the beach in LA.

Moved to Boulder Colorado

I began school at Paddock elementary,

Dad worked at Top Secret Government Labs

Mom taught black-inner city children.

I gained insight into other cultures and learned

advanced physics.

Moved to Northern Montana.

Dad taught physics and math at NMC.

Mom taught Blackfeet children.

I am exposed to even more cultures and learn

math and science.

Moved to Farmington, NM.

Dad helps found San Juan College.

Mom becomes active in valley politics and

teaches at Mesa Verde Elementary.

I learn about FM radio, rock and roll and racism.

I graduate from FHS in the top 10%!

(big surprise)

The Expansion Years - It's a Big Planet!

I attend San Juan college and actually get to

take classes from my Dad! I graduate "Who's who in

American Junior colleges" and "Meritorious Graduate"

with an A.S. in Electrical Engineering.

I travel to New Mexico State College

and learn that there are many people

in the world. ( Some are as smart as me, Yikes!)

I Graduate from NMSU - Crimson Scholar, perfect 4.0

average. Commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the USAF.

Into The Burning Blue

I attended Undergraduate Pilot Training in Oklahoma,

(fighter pilot school) and learn that some of the

people out here are actually smarter than me. Ego crisis follows.

Assigned to be a pilot instructor! I tour the

planet from pole-to-pole, but still live in Oklahoma.

I fly to Near-Earth orbit in a F-15E. Finally, I made it to space. Well, sort of.

1st marriage fails.

The Wandering Years

I return to home base to look for a new direction

after my time in the Air Force is served.

I move to Phoenix. Here, I try 178 different jobs.

From grease monkey to computers, and everything

in between. (Flame-thrower carrier on the asphalt gang? What was I thinking?!)

I begin work at Long Wong's and join a rock band.

Little do I know that my roommates will become

multi-million dollar rock stars, but not until I

leave the band.

I choose the corporate world. Tired of starving, I go

with my day job and begin to climb towards power.

I rise to glory in the Fat Tuesday corporation.

Although I begin as a lowly cook, I soon make regional

manager and finally International Training Coordinator.

I now command 20,000 souls.

Footsteps of the Fathers - Nuture or Destiny?

I return home once again, this time to bury my father.

My career is ended as fate takes a hand.

I take care of my aging mother and begin to substitute

teach to keep busy.

The Sharing Years

I remarry and begin to raise a family.

Finally I put down roots.

I do well. I am offered a job as a fill in teacher at Heights

Junior High.

I do really well. I am offered a permanent position

at the new state-of-the-art Junior High, Mesa View.

My career soars as I am appointed Math department head

after one year of teaching at the new school.

I teach at Mesa View for the next decade, What an adventure! It puts my other adventures to shame.

I am given the postition of Lead Teacher at the Transition Academy.

Fort Lewis as in Fort Lewis Washington? My dad was a flight instructor. He was also in the Civil Air Patrol. When I was little I got to go up with him on a search for lost plane. My dad built the plane in our garage and my mom sewed the canvas for the frame. Scares me now, but i didn't know any better at the time. I still have alot of my dads pictures with planes and his flight logs.

And I always say that I've had a "Forest Gump" kind of life. I just seemed to stumble from one amazing job to the next, never quite planning anything out. Go figure.:o

I was first a school teacher; then at University followed by a few years as a construction engineer; then temporarily in filing; the last 17 years developed into a business advisor specialising in advising on expatriate taxes mainly advising companies on tax implications of assigning people to different places around the world; now have taken a few months break and will start looking for something new perhaps connected to what I did before, perhaps new; hopefully managing customer accounts with managing and developing people.

What do you do for a living ?

What did you do for a living ?

What evening / weekend / holiday work do you do for pocket money (students)

Do you do more than one job ? ( I know some of you have several)

If you have done different jobs in the past, what were they ?

Me ?

Started as a hairdresser when I left school

Went to work in a factory just after i got married because the money was better (pharmacuticals)

Left to have kids

Did several poorly paid jobs at home....but one led me to where I work now.

So ...carried on with the homework for B&W Loudspeakers

Started part time for B&W when kids went to school

Went full time as kids grew up (also my mum came to live with me )

Moved from Operator to Supervisor

Up from Supervisor to Production Manager

Took on Additional role of Training manager .....

Still awake ????

I'm sure you guys have done some really interesting jobs.....we'd love to hear all about them.
I'm a dreamer.

When i was a kid, I would dig in the dirt(yes you heard me right) and come up with arrowheads and geodes as big as a skull! Take all of them to my geology lab and do experiments on them.

Started to paint when I was 11.

Got married had two kids and divorced by the time I was 22.

Went to Indiana university to study art, finished in Phoenix with a medical diploma instead.

Wish I would have stuck to art!

Graduated with a 4.0 and member of Llamba Beta Society.

Got my credentials at 26 and commenced to be the best dang RT on the planet!(LOL)

Still wishing I had stuck to art!

Divorced one more time.

Finally found my prince and moved to england.

No longer able to be the best dang RT on the planet, so I guess I will go with art! Planning on going part time so I can paint and flog 'em on ebay. Maybe open a little shop.

Archaeology sounds good!
