Just finished the new Nixon/Kissinger book by Robert Dallek. It was great, what a pair these two were. I know hindsight is always 20/20 but how did they ever survive so long?

Same reason GW did, people just can't believe an elected leader can so mislead those who elected them. Despite all the evidence there are still many who think nixon was innocent. Try pointing out how the states has supported repressive regimes and overthrown democratic governments and see what reaction you get, people just prefer the fantasy to reality.

Same way W did. The opposition couldn't come up with a viable alternative.

Kissinger won the Nobel Peace Prize. Rather shameful, that.
