Enlarged Adenoids and ADHD

Post by Pheasy »

My son recently had to have a CAT scan because he ran in our deck at full speed (his usually speed), banged his head on the deck and passed out. Thankfully the scan showed everything is okay, except they did say he had excessively large adenoids. I have made an appointment to see ENT specialist - anyway while I was looking up what this could mean, I came across this.

Has anyone heard of this before, or noticed that their children were calmer after having their adenoids removed?

Also, now here's another weird bit, I was sure he had his adenoids removed when he was 4 years old, at the same time as he had tubes (gromits) put in. I know this sounds crazy, but I am certain :-5 (am I losing my mind) - I don't know how to get access to his UK medical records, just to make sure that I am not going senile :-5

Can adenoids regrow?

You need to contact the hospital where the operation was carried out (if you know the name I can send you the address / phone number) and get them to check their records.

Thanks Bryn - all I can remember right now is that it was done at BUPA hospital in Bristol, I will have to try and remember which doctor he was under at the time. We lived in Weston-Super-Mare, it was 10 years ago - Will I have to search W-S-M doctors and hope they are still there?

I just looked again at the adenoid regrown, and apparently if the surgeon left any adenoid tissue behind they can regrow.

Spire Bristol Hospital

The Glen

Redland Hill

Durdham Down

Bristol

BS6 6UT

It's not the doctor in W-S-M who referred him but the consultant in the hospital who'll hold the records - with luch the Spire will only have one ENT consultant.

Thanks Bryn :-4

My next question, can I pull his medical records?- As I am now in the USA, I can't go there, so would be requesting info via letter or phone call - I guess I would have to go through some process of prooving I am his mother via birth certificates and marriage certificates etc :-5 Nothing is simple :-5

Note to self ..... If you change countries again, get medical records to take with you.

I guess it does not matter, either way he has adenoids AGAIN!! :-5 LARGE ADENOIDS :-5

I had to do this a short while back over an operation I had ten years ago. I 'phoned them to explain what and why and then had to put it in writing.

As the information was not sensitive they did not demand proof of identity and sent the info by return of post.

Hey pheasy, two of my three boys had their adnoids regrow. I don't know if they were inproperly removed or if they actually regrow but twice we had to go through removal.

Hi Wisey, how you doing? When I saw you had posted, I was not sure what to expect, as we were discussing large 'adenoids' - you being a breast man an all :wah:

Apparently its down to the surgeon doing a sloppy job and not removing all the tissue.

 Any FG surgeons are going to kill me for that one
