Although I agree with them, I'm disappointed in the artists that have signed up for this. P. Diddy? Please.

In reality, however, it is proper for them to speak out, even if they are misguided, as many people will respond very well to figures like that telling them what to do. I suppose they figured that if "buy my record!" works every time then political messages would work too.

gr8geezer and All,

It's interesting that these are "rockers." Is there a "country" group coalition doing this same thing? The only band that I can recall right now are the Dixie Chicks and their "disapproval" of the war cost them fans a plenty!

It's almost a genetic thing:

When you are young you usually bend to the liberal side.

When you are older you usually bend to the conservative side.

If you are older and are still a liberal - that means:

1. You view yourself as a victim.

2. You are ungodly rich. (Read entertainers, sports figures, etc.)

3. You expect others to take care of you. (Read: The Government.)

4. You work for the Democratic Party.

Just calling it as I see it. :D

If this doesn't spark some catcalls, then I'll be surprised.

Don't conservatives view themselves as victims of regulations, international law and restrictions on business practises?

Yes. But they are not looking for handouts. They are looking for relief from regulations. I view it as night and day. One group produces and creates income, jobs, and collectible taxes. The group I'm talking about falls in the "my hand is out - what are you going to give me" category.

What about corporate executives who donate a lot of money to the GOP. I don't think they're poor.

Agreed. A little difference though: Corporate executives are in the business of running businesses, employing people, and growing a tangible asset. It's a different mindset and lifestyle than a movie star or professional athlete. The level of responsiblity and accountability is vastly different.

What about the lobbyists for big corporations? They seem to expect the government to give them an awful lot.

Yes, to a point. This applies to the first argument. It is more of a relief from regulations and lawsuits.

Just my perspective!

seriously though, the problem with celebrities using their celeb status to hawk their own political positions is that it's an abuse of power. truly. they are no more qualified than joe sixpack or jill granola to voice their opinion. unlike joe sixpack and jill granola however, the celeb has instant access to fans, press, tv, whatever, who are more than delighted to listen and broadcast their every utterance - even if the only contribution they've ever made to modern culture is a jingle stuck in your head for days on end.

No they don't. I just previewed a 7th grade history book. They had exactly 2 pages on the entire World Ward II saga. (This is a 300 plus page book, mind you.)

Sent shivers down my spine. There were more pages about Martin Luther King and the "Great Society" under Lyndon Johnson than on an event where millions of people died.

Downer indeed! I'm tempted to put up some website critiqueing (sp?) the current books that they use in schools today.

I find that kids learn 4500X more just watching the History Channel one day a week.
