It functioned on two levels: mundane and spiritual. On a mundane level, alchemists sought to find a physical process to convert base metals such as lead into gold. On a spiritual level, alchemists worked to purify themselves by eliminating the "base" material of the self and achieving the 'gold' of enlightenment.

By Renaissance times, many alchemists believed that the spiritual purification was necessary in order to achieve the mundane transformations of metals. Of course not, I hold no illusions that Im anything more than one guy one opinion.

Im interested in the way people think, It gets me excited to see how much diversity is amongst us and I already know my thoughts and ideas, I find most of my opinions rather mundane.

A leading question will be led to it's conclusion conclusively and any presumption for it to do otherwise is presumably presumptuous and pompous in the extreme although extremely unlikely and not an event we would like to conclude with without entertaining pomposity.
