I don't have central heating. Just a 3kw convector heater. When it's on, my meter spins like a top. I'm spending more time in bed now. The alternative is to go out. I haven't a job since 23/12 last.

This place is actually warmer than my last one. There it would drop to 4C (39F) over night. Here it only drops to 9C (48F) over night.

Your landlord should be doing something about you heat as its against the law not to provide proper necessities in life.;)

There's no law here to say he has to provide central heating. Even if he did, I would still have to pay to use it. I have the basic utilities.

I've worked as a sub-contractor for the last 20 years. I've never known unemployment as bad as it is at the moment. When it affects me, then it really is bad.

As a sub-contractor, I pay my own income tax and national insurance payments. My client only has to pay my fee. I am easier to employ and dismiss than full-time employees. I have ridden downturns in the past without a problem.

Further, I have found that it is worse down the south end of the country where I used to live before moving to West Yorkshire. Also, over the last decade, I have seen a lot of companies that I have worked for sell up, go out of business, or move abroad where labour is cheaper.

no, not to pay for central heating, but to make sure you have enough heating is a law.

I had no idea the unemployment was that bad in your field.

hoping you fine something soon.:)

The snow had thawed over the last two days. Most of it had gone by yesterday but last night we had a freeze over. It's just ice outside. Treachorous. I've no plans to go out today.

Oh my goodness, I feel sorry for the people who have to drive to work today. Nothing worse than ice and we had that here last week. My driveway looked like an ice skating rink. I watched from my office window as people were trying to drive and they were spinning all over. No job, IMO, is worth killing yourself over :)

It turns out that I saw Arabella today. I went to her Grandma's to sort out their new printer and Arabella was there for the day. She was in good form as usual.

A magazine called Arabella. What was it about?

I've been out of work since Christmas so I haven't been able to have Arabella over as I haven't enough money for petrol or food. But, she has been to her grandmother's twice (including yesterday) and they have invited me over so I can see her.

Is it far to pick her up?

would she not eat a peanut butter sandwich or grilled cheese?

Depends on what you mean by far. It's too far to walk. Either way, I have no money. I'm still trying to extract something out of our wonderful system here.
