Thank you, Oscar! My father was in the Navy in the South Pacific during WWII but thankfully he never saw action. His most vivid wartime memory was of the young bare breasted polynesian women who would swim out to the nearby ships then swim back to shore. To an 18 year old young man from western Virginia, that was quite a vision and welcome distraction!
My maternal grandfather was on a merchant marine ship that was torpedoed in the Mediterranean Sea. They were carrying Italian prisoners of war. I don't know all of the details but they were rescued by another ship.
