Big Battle-----Not Well Known

Post by Lon »

Between the German Surrender in 1945 and the dropping of the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima, the Soviet Union declared war on Japan and invaded Manchuria.

The amount of manpower, more than a million each, and equipment, is staggering. The battle did not last long. From August 8th to September 2, 1945, ending with the Japanese surrender after the dropping of the bomb on Hiroshima. There is some information on the web about this event, but the best coverage was provided on the "History Channel" with outstanding filming by both Russian and Japanese war photographers.

What I really find amazing about this is the fact that despite the devastation that the Germans initially caused in their Russian Campaign & the huge loss of life by Soviet troops, that they still had such massive strength to not only push west into Berlin, but conduct this huge invasion of Manchuria.
