I am proud to visit the Federal Republic with your distinguished chancellor who for so many years has committed Germany to democracy and freedom and progress, and to come here in the company of my fellow American, General Clay, who has been in this city during its great moments of crisis and will come again if ever needed.Interesting chap, Lucius Clay. He was the commander of the American occupation zone in Germany during Curtis LeMay's Berlin Airlift.

I was 9 years old when he died. I remember the principal sent us all home from school. I have a strong recollection of walking by a classroom and seeing a teacher standing by a window sobbing. :-1

[QUOTE=Diuretic;466284] I still remember exactly what I was doing and where I was when I was told he'd been assassinated. /QUOTE]

ALOHA!!

MOTTO TO LIVE BY:

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.

WOO HOO!!, what a ride!!!"

i had dreams for weeks afterwards, the entire scenario played out in my mind every night. i was just a kid, huddled in a heavy wool coat against a raw windy day, the white house draped in black, and the caisson passing slowly by, the riderless horse a poignant symbol. it stayed with me always.

I was in school. We were all sent home. I found my mom crying in the livingroom watching tv. It felt like all hope was taken away from us. Then it seemed like all hell broke loose with Johnson.
