Tom Clancy, author of Hunt for Red October and Patriot Games, dies aged 66 - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

I loved his books and I think most loved the adaptions of them into films.

Yep 66 is awfully young. I much preferred his books over the movies. Except for Red October which was an exellent film.
