Got Castles?

Post by RedGlitter »

Hi! Please don't laugh. I have a crazy fascination with castles. I have never seen any in person except at the miniature golf course and Disneyland. :wah:

I have scrubbed the Web for photos of castle interiors (even ruins are okay, so long as I can get an idea) but it's like no one takes pictures of the inside! Just the outside! Since a lot of you live in castle countries or have travelled and seen some, I wondered if any of you might have some cool photos you would share? Inside or outside! :D

Thank you.

Have a look on Amazon for the Official Guide to Windsor Castle. That has pictures of the interior and the art collections etc....

Red, check out Boldt Castle. It is here in New York State..in the northern region, near Canada. It was being built by a man for his wife (Mr. Boldt). She died before it was completed, and he never finished it.

Good photos and info

Try Rochester Castle - ruined enough that you can see the structure but complete enough that you can walk some of the stairs and rooms.

My youngest's reaction was "that's what a castle should be like".

Thank you so much for these photos and links! I have found some fab castles! Oh! Ruined abbeys are good too. :) I'm a nut for old buildings of any kind really. One of my dreams is to live in a Victorian house. I'm crazy about them. :D Thanks for all your help!

This is my local Castle Red Glitter, it's about 4 miles from the village where I live!

They did one of those Most Haunted programmes from there too.

This is Tamworth Castle which is less than a mile from here, so presumably, my house would have been within its grounds at some point. It was built just after the Norman Invasion (the castle, not my house). Tamworth was the home of the Mercian Kings before that.

Have a look at http://www.greydragon.org/trips/England00/ - especially the Towie Barclay castle photos. The owner's a singer/songwriter of note and his home is well photographed on that site.
