I have a Mr. Lincoln rose bush, it is very large. By the end of summer, it reaches to the 2nd story of the house. It takes alot of pruning to trim it. Weeder would give the best advice on roses, she knows the most.

What do you mean exactly by "luck"? They don't grow at all or they
do and get diseased or something?
Start with good root stock, there are different grades so get a
good quality one. Jackson and Perkins is a good brand. This time
of year depending on where you live you should find pretty good
selection of bare root. Get ones you think you'll like (some of the
tags have good info on mildew or disease resistance) and plant
in a sunny location with well drained soil. They really shouldn't
take much care until the following year when you'll prune them
back. A good rule of thumb is to leave 3 or 4 canes per rosebush,
a foot to a foot and a half in length. That's the scary part, I've
been doing it for 20 years or so and still every year I think I've
about killed them!
(I never have, though!)
You can use regular rose food or go cheapo and try Epsom Salts
as some do... I tend do stick with good ol' fish emulsion, myself.

yes I do, love, and i caress them too, and smell them and like them, and they like growing cause i wish them too.. but if you fear they fail all the time, they fear too, to dont be good enough, and they died, cause they think thats what you want them to do. :-2 :-1

ask old gartner thats how they do you can always talk to them by thoguth and anyhow do oyu usualy got people watching you when you do gardening sweetheart?
I doubt so. and it loks better to talk to a rose than to talk to yourself with a wire from your mouth to your ear in a cell phone inside your pocket while walking in the streets or driving, right?

I took one of my Grandmother's plants when she died. They gave me one. It looked half dead, hun. I took it home and loved it because it was her plant and man you should have seen it. It got so pretty and green. Almost didn't look real. Had it for a long time then it started to go. It was like she was still with me.

this is so sweet love, :-4 so you see that with a little love, you go a long way..
you should try it more often. plant them in memory of yoru grand ma, and care for them as she was with her own garden, and you will see what will happen..

OK, back to the Roses
I find Roses fairly easy to grow
I have two beautiful red rose bushes that bloom twice a year - they trail & twist thru my White Iron Fence LOVE THEM..
Yes, I baby them - not much, but as far as plants go - they get my attention.
While in bloom they get everyones attention
They're beautiful & smell wonderful..

Life is just to short for drama.

Plant them where they get plenty of light (they hate being under trees). Dig good, well rotted organic matter into the soil. Buy them bare root from a respectable grower. Plant them in winter. Water them well until they are established. You will get flowers
