Ghost stories

Post by Aura »

In 1973 a Liverpool man named Tony Evans, went on a caravan holiday with his Scottish wife Agnes to Aberdeenshire. Tony went into an old tavern in the village of Lonmay, and ended up drinking until nearly three in the morning. Tony and Agnes then staggered home to the caravan site, but lost their way and ended up in the middle of the countryside with just a full moon to guide them. They saw what they thought was a barn, and could see a faint flickering fire in the place. As they walked nearer to the barn, they could hear the sound of metal being struck, and when they walked into the building, they saw it was a blacksmith's shop.

A man with his back to them was hammering a glowing orange horseshoe on an anvil, and wasn't aware the couple were behind him. Tony called out, and the blacksmith turned. Straight away, the couple saw that this blacksmith was very familiar for some reason. At first they thought the man was some actor, but then they suddenly recognised him, and became speechless. The man had coal black hair, with long thick sideburns. It was undoubtedly Elvis Presley. The man mopped his brow and talked in a thick Scottish accent that Tony ' s wife could barely understand.

The Elvis 'doppelganger' glared as he wielded a huge hammer in his hand. The couple backed away, then hurried off into the night. They noted where the blacksmith's shop was, and went back to the spot on the following morning. There was nothing but a field at that location. The couple did learn however, that other people had seen the ghostly blacksmith at his forge over the years.

A publication called Weekend magazine printed the story, and the strange tale eventually reached the United States, and Elvis Presley himself heard about the weird incident. Experts discovered that Elvis Presley's ancestral home was a remote Scottish hamlet in Aberdeenshire - called Lonmay. A blacksmith called Andrew Presley had married Elspeth Leg in Lonmay on August 27, 1713. Their son, also named Andrew, became the first Presley in America when he arrived in North Carolina in 1745.
