Foyle's War

Post by LarsMac »

A while back, I watched an episode of this on PBS' Masterpiece theater.

The entire series is available on NetFlix, now.

We have watched several of them.

It is set in Hastings at the beginning of WWII.

Foyle is a detective Chief Superintendent with the local police.

In the midst of the build-up to the coming War, he solves crimes (mostly murders) and gets involved in many of the pre-war activities.

It seems to be well done, and the actors and characters keep us coming back for more.

I wonder at some of the events portrayed as back-drop to the stories. It seems that Englanders went a bit crazy in their preparations for the impending attack by the Nazis.

Was this series run in the UK? and has anyone else seen it?

IF so, I would love to know your thoughts.

It's been on TV here for years but it's not something I've ever worked my way into.

The events portrayed as back drop are based on reality. The impending attack did actually take place but we managed to persuade them invasion was not a viable option. It's easy to forget but most of the parents whose children fought in ww2 had either fought in ww1 or had probably lost family members at the very least (anyone aged 30 and above lived through ww1 of an age to remember it well). it's not as if people did not know the meaning of war.

There is a new season on the local PBS, apparently just after the war ended, and everyone is beginning to get there lives back together. Foyle has been invited to join MI5.
